I'm looking into new wheels and tires. I really would like an 8" wide wheel to get a wider stance but everything I've read says only go with a 7" wheel. So is it the actual wheel size that results in the rubbing issues or is it the tire size that people choose? Seems everyone selects the wheels that will work with the tires they want to run, rather than doing the opposite and selecting a tire that will work with the wheel they want to run. I have an 07 stock height Sport 4wd, daily driver, future lift kit (2.5")... what are my options? |

Wheelwells in the KJ are not very big for one thing, so stock you are pretty much limited to stock width wheels, some have ran say like a Moab that is 8 inches wide 5 inches of back spacing but its tight, also 245-70s are the biggest tire and thats not really a good size on an 8 inch wheel Lifted you have a little more choice but not much due to turning radius etc |

If you want to go wide I would go with a 2.5" lift, 15x8 Cragar V-5's, and pound the pinch weld in your wheel well and there will be no rubbing issues. People will debate with me saying 15x8's and 3.75" backspacing will cause issues, but my spare that is on my jeep is a V-5 and I have no issues with it. So once I get some money I will be getting a full set of them |

Running one as a spare and then running them all of the time and having any ability to flex is way different. 8 inches of wheel width and 5 inches of back spacing is about it, well unless you never go anywhere but the mall of course stock wheel / 245-70-16 stuffed with 2 inches of bumpstop ![]() 16X8 wheel 5 inches backspacing with 265-75 stuffed with 2 inches of bumpstop, had to go with 3 inches and LOST an inch of travel just to run them Running with less backspacing and you would need to have a lot more bumpstop or would be tearing your flares off

Whatever you think but from personal experience and what I have read of others trying an 8 inch with that backspacing it doesn't work well But its all in what you want, what you would be willing to give up for that look. Me I use mine everyday and want it to go anywhere I want it to |

Question's are how much actual lift? bumpstops how much ? Have flares ever been torn off size of tires? His 31 inch Have to think of someone new on here asking the question, Sure they can read where so and so is running a 10 inch wide wheel with 2 inches of back spacing but what did they have to do to run that size. We'll take Wildman as an example, I know he won't care I know what it took so far for him to be able to stuff a 33 inch tire on, now someone new sees that and thinks thats what I want to run. They don't know how much cutting etc was done to mount them. Generalized answer does not give all of the facts to someone who has never lifted or driven a KJ very much

It was my bad actually, I didnt know the OP was new and only had 1 post.... that was my mistake. And youre right, ridenby probably has the right specification on his jeep in order to run 31's with 15x8's and he probably has the knowledge needed to know what had to have been done in order to run that setup. HDP- read around the forum and look at all the different types of lifts and what people have used and then you can get a better feel of what is easy to run and what will require alot of work, for instance, trying to stuff 33's under youre KJ is SUPER tough and will require alot of work. But if you want to go the, easy/less hassel route and have something practical for your daily drives, go with a full spring lift and some 245/75/16's.That will set you up nicely. |

Flares been torn off several times, buy fender clips by the box full. Use teraflex? in front. I used a Frankenlift,Rancho shocks, HD rears, some isolators. Basically just listened to the sermon Rev. |

Stock wheels 5.5"backspace, 32" tires 235x85R16 with OME springs and an extra isolater in the back. 3/16 spacer in the front. 2" of bump stop rear, terraflex bumpstops front. Mudds Monroe Sensa trac load adjusting shocks in the rear, OME shock in the front.

I would like to run 16x8 wheels... what is the correct "recipe"? Lift height, backspacing, offset, tire size, modifications, cutting, trimming, pounding... ? |

Probably the safest and most common is ... Lift: 2" to 2.5" (OME or frankenlift) Wheels: 16x8 with 5" backspace (Moabs or similiar) gives you 1.5 inches wider stance on each corner Tires: 245x75R16 Pound pinch weld as described elsewhere. Some liner triming depending mostly on what you got, 02-04 or 05-07 Very good combination. very little rubbing. I ran this for over three years before I switched to my current setup. |

Yes several write ups on doing the pinch welds trimming kind of depends on year, height you end up with, tires selected can make a big difference as well. If you get an aftermarket bumper that helps a whole lot in the front not a good shot but you can see how a 16X8 5 inch backspacing fits in the wheelwells in the rear

Yes, that's the stance I'm looking for but maybe slightly shorter tire. Want to keep the same rolling diameter as stock tires |
