| Post subject: | Tire Pressure What Chu Got? |
Heya, I was just wondering what tire pressure everyone is driving on. I searched on the threads for this but came up with nothing. If everyone could post what type, size and pressure they run at, both on the street and off-road if you pressure down, this could be a usefull tool for people to gauge by. A baseline if you will. I have 245/70/16 Revos myself and wonder if i could get better gas mileage if I air up or down. I'm also wondering how much i can air down my size for soft sand, beaches and dunes n' rocks.. GOT TIRE PRESSURE? |

I have the same size as you and I run 33lbs as it says on the door. I have a 4x2 and ain't had to air down yet, even on the bottomless sand. I get 24mpg+ If those revos work as good as these destination A/T's you'll be dumbfounded. The good thing about that 4x4 in the sand is you can go slower and keep that frontend from digging in like a 4x2 can This locked 4x2 kicks butt in the sand in reverse |

i run 38psi on road 28 off road 20 in the sand 245/70 r16 Bridgestone D694 AT, ( Same as the revo) and i average 22 mpg |

I have the 245/70 Revo's. I run them at 36 psi. I've had them down to 22 psi when wheeling. They are the P rated ones. I get about 14 mpg (about 80% city driving). |

Does that sounds right? The tire says MAX 50 psi...... Anyone else have 265/75..? |

FlRenny, 33lbs is 33lbs, a bigger tire has more volume. Don't mean you need more air pressure than whats on the door. The tire will be adjusted right whether its a 215 or 265. The tire will have the same slight buldge at the bottom and the tread nice and even Only time you need to increase the pressure is when adding extra weight. Say you load your pickup with bricks, well you might want to air it up toward the max. Thats why LT tires (light Truck) usually have a higher max psi and sidewall rating. You'll wear your shocks out quick (especially rear), spill your coffee, stress your suspension too much, and possibly wear the center of the tire more with that kinda pressure. Might stop better and ride better with a lower pressure. That kinda pressure is hindering the grip and ability of the tire. Did you ever get to the bottom of your shock problem you posted about? |

I keep mine at around 35psi normally, 23-24 when wheeling (rocks and trees). When I was out on the beach I had them down as low as 8psi (yes  and they worked awesome. In the hot sun + sand, the pressure will go up, too, so when you air down, put them a little lower than you want, when you check on them 10-20 minutes later you'll see that they climbed a little.

OO yea actually I did get to the bottom of my problem. lol there is NO problem. I had my buddy take her for a ride. He told me that I was crazy. We did the jump up and down test on it too. It seems they are ok, and I'm just a paranoid perfectionist that must have OCD or something lol. But now I'm wondering why when I'm gonig around a corner at about 35mph (or any mph) and hit a bump the front end feels like it wants to get loose. And I'm scared one time I'm going to over-correct and have a problem...... is that just part of having a spacer lift as apposed to spring.....? |

FLRenny, Have you ever tried it with a lower air pressure? Thats exactly what happens when its too high because your tires are stiff and bouncing like a basketball. (skipping) Your tires have to absorb some shock first, then your shocks. You also might need a quicker shock. Not the spacer lift's problem "over-correct " Not what you want to do in a liftd liberty I bet the proper air pressure will solve it and give you better control |

I've run my 265/75/16 TrXus M/T's at 36psi. for over a year now with good control and even wear. My Libby also weighs in at 4,860 lbs. with a full tank of gas and all the extra metal, so you could drop down a few pounds less. Like John said, you're riding on basket balls with that much pressure in them. |

Sounds like I deffinatly need to air down. But wasn't the whole deal with tire splitting, and roll over ...the fact that it's dangerous to "air down" your tires b/c it creates more of a roll over threat? And the tire my split do to the shift in weight "rolling" the actual tire, and causing it to split? |

I try to keep mine at 33-36psi. They are at 36 right now b/c its been warming up around here. Anytime I take a trip somewhere I make sure they have 36psi. Ive never aired down and Ive been fine with the mild off -roading I do. Even if I did I couldnt go below 25 without the evic going crazy with the TPMS. 235/65/17. I want to get 245/65/17's though.

Tire: 245/75/16 Goodyear MT/R's On-road pressure: 40lbs Off-road Pressure: 15lbs When I go wheeling I just deal w/ the light. With the stock tires I wouldn't go any lower than 20. But that's just me. Parakeet |

This rolling over of the tire does happen, but only at low psi, say <20. In fact, it helps the tire grip and conform to surfaces better. You should only be going under 25 or so MPH when "aired down", so the dangerousness of the tires rolling is minimalized. This is why your tires need to be properly inflated (~30 PSI at least) for street and highway use. If someone forgot to air back up after offroading and got on the highway, they're looking for a ride in the meat-wagon! |

i got 225/75/16 wrangler ats's we run 32 street and 16-18 trails KJ also got 30X9.5X15 reminton mud brutes 32 street 16-18 trails TJ just remeber that with less than 18 psi you can bust a bead easy so you should not go that low with out a good air compressor to reset a bead also the drive home will be very "loose" hope this helps |
