17" rim and tire combo help

Post subject:  17" rim and tire combo help
Alright, I know all of you are running either 15 or 16" rims with 245 blah blah....But I have 17" rims on Bullet and want to know what size tires to get after I Frankenlift her. Metric sizes confuse the H-E double hockey sticks out of me, so here I am asking for guidance....AGAIN!! :P :P

I want to go with something aggressive but not tooo loud on pavement cause I do drive her daily. I also want to get something that will have minimum rub. Don't want to be making mince meat out of the inner fender plastic. I don't mind shaving a bit off, but no water bottle relocation crap ok guys?? KISS, I am still learning here. :P

Dont know about sizes for 17" rim, but i got Goodyear MT/R's and they are quite quiet on the highway. Most noise is beteween 35-40 then they quiet back dwon.

Check out cooper tires.

They have some nice tires in 17" Look for 245/70R17 which the same size as 245/75R16 that most of us run.

The Cooper SST and ST look like good options.

As far as rubbing, it all depends on alot of factors. Almost any larger tire is going to rub to some degree. But don't worry about it they won't rub that bad. A little trimming and heat gun can take care of it.

I've got MTR's also - but I can hear the noise at any speed - I suspect you'd be happier with an AT instead of a MT - Lot's of folks rave about Bridgestone Revos, and the Goodyear Silent Armor's have had some good reports. I haven't tried them.

Not sure if you just made a typo, but 245/70 17 is the same as 245/75 16, which should be fine for a lift KJ. Now 245/75 17 is probably too big.

Just take a look at the specs on the Revo's

I love my MTR's but for snow and mud, there's got to be a better tire in 17's.

I've got my mtrs on steel stock 16" wheels and keep my regular tires on my 17"s that came with the Freedom edition. This way I don't wear out the cool tires doing boring stuff and I get the benefit of better mileage most of the time.

That was my origional plan....put mud tires on the stock rims and switch for mudding or trails. But with a lift, won't the '17's with regular tires look kinda dinky? this is my delima and I can't afford 2 sets of tires and the lift!!!

Actually - my MTR's and several other folks came from Rubicon's where the owners upgraded to bigger tires/wheels - in Southern California I think they're fairly easy to find - and I've seen a couple of posts in the 650-700 range for wheels and tires. If you have space to keep an extra set of wheels tires it's not a bad idea. - check the Rubicon owners forum
The big issue is shipping so it's important to find someone local.

well if you've got mudders on stocker rims for the trail, might you consider a highway tire? Because there will be a MUCH bigger selection of highway tires in the sizes you're looking for. Perhaps Goodyear Fortera's or Bridgestone Dueler H/T's???
