What is the least amount of backspacing you can run before you have to worry about Lower Ball Joint stress?

Also.. Is a rim that is 16x7 with 4in of backspacing sit on the hub about the same as a rim that is 16x8 with 5in of backspacing?
Like how much tire would be seen near the fender.. I think I am wording it correctly.. Any help would be appreciated..

Thanks,

Ben

So if I understand your question correctly, you want to mount a wider rim/tire combo with the same backspace? You need to look at the steering geometry with this tire installed to make sure you have clearance especially if not lifting the suspension. There is not much wiggle room with the stock tire size, a wider tire will likely rub the inner fender liner in turns.

On the LBJ stress issue, LBJ's are already stressed out and will fail shortly anyways. It's more a question of do you want DC warranty to replace them or just pay to get greasable Moogs and be done with it.

16x7 is good with 4 inch backspacing. That what I have on mine and mine sticks out about 1/2" past the fenders. But the one thing I regret is not buying a 16x8, because in the future if you want to upgrade to a wider tire, you will need that one inch. So I would recommend getting a 16x8 with 4.5 to 5 inch backspacing. Or you could get 15x8 Rock crawlers with 4.75" backspacing. Hope this helps.

Yeah.. I was looking at getting the 16x8 with 5in backspacing.. From what I have gathered on the board.. That is same specs at the MOAB tires off the Rubicon.. Nice rims.. But I am looking at steelies.. Cheaper to replace if one gets mashed on the trails...

I am getting the Frankinlift installed with Al's A arms.. I know the stock rims won't work for the big tires I want to use without a spacer..

Thanks for the posts.. I kind of have an idea now.. As for the LBJ.. When it goes.. I will just have it replaced under warrenty until they get tired of it and then I will just go with MOOG ball joints...

Ben

You better be getting it "installed" at my house or yours! Don't pay some joker a bunch of money to do something we can accomplish.
