| Post subject: | TALLEST TIRE SIZE????? |
I have an all stock 03 liberty, and i am in need of new tires, and would like to go bigger if i can... currently i have a 235/75/R16 and i am just wondering if i can run the 245/75/R16 with out having to lift it??? If i do infact need to lift, what is everyones opinion on a Daystar lift kit (simplicity and durability is better for me, not for heavey offraod use) Thanks in advance for any advice, Jordan |

You will not be able to run 245/75s without a lift unless you want A LOT of rubbing. I have those size tires, and they rub enough to annoy me sometimes even with my Frankenlift! Based on reviews on here, I think the Daystar lift is definitely a quality spacer lift, but I think you may want to at least replace your struts. Do a search on this, because I think I remember someone having troubles with those after they installed their Daystar lift. |

i am running on 245/75/16 no lift and with a heavy ARB bumper.......I never had any rubbings before the ARB, but after ARB i would get rubbing at full turn...Solution was a little trimmng and screwing the plastic wheel liners to the support behind them.... btw I have destination LE....great all year around tires. minimum noise, decent price |

You'll likely rub with any 245/75/16 at stock height. However, the extent of the rubbing will be determined by they type of tire. M/T's will rub most, followed by A/T's, and lastly, general SUV tires. One thing you may want to consider is a lift from Rusty's. Its half the price of the Frankenlift, but the quality is still up there. It may cost a little more to have it professionally installed, but it is worth the price if you don't have all the tools and know-how, not to mention a few buds willing to help. I had a spacer lift on first, albeit THE worst on out there. I am leary of them, because of the way they change the geometry of the front suspension and increase the amount the wheel will flex up into the well, while running out of front strut to compensate. I am not very familiar with the Daystar set up, but many here have it and are pleased with it. IMO though, if your going to spend the money on a lift and tires, spend a little more and buy the quality. When you think about it, everything you have rides on it. My .02. Good luck!! |

Thanks in advance for any advice, Jordan You sure it's a 235/75R16 and not a 235/70R16? If you really are running a 235/75R16 with no problems, a 245/75R16 will probably fit, since it's only 0.5" larger in diameter. (235/70R16 vs 235/75R16 is 1" difference in diameter, though, so if you are currently running a 235/70R16, that's a 1.5" jump in diameter to the 245/75R16) |

But because the distance taken up is a measurement from the axis to whatever the tire is rubbing shouldn't it be the radius that's considered? I know there's the added matter of the width of the tire too but just in terms of diameter vs. radius....? |

I just meant to emphasize how much larger a 245/75R16 is compared to a 235/70R16. (and how not-so-much-larger it is compared to a 235/75R16, if that really is the size) |

http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html that is a good site to see it for yourself if that helps 235/70/16 Factory 245/75/16 there will be about 1.5" taller and 3/4 wider and will rub some at full lock, anoying at first with AT but with MT it will sound like you are taring the fenders off at full lock just get use to not holding it and just let off a tad. You will need to do the pinch weld thing and depending where you wheel maybe the fog lite covers. Also at the bottom of the calculator it will give you the diffrence in speed just my though |

Ok i think i did make a mistake in the current tire size, They are in fact 235/70/R16. Is this the tallest tire i can run all together? I just wanna make sure i'm getting the most bang for my buck when i install new tires, without having to do a lift. I am also toying with the idea of stepping back to a 15'' rim and seing if 30'' tires will fit, from what i can tell is the more rubber between the ground and rim is what i'm really looking for. |

I've got an '05 Renegade with the optional Wrangler SR-A's... not sure of the size off the top of my head... anyway, can I fit a larger tire in there without a lift or rubbing? Similar question... but I'm not sure if the Renny's fender flares are larger than a sport's... |

I think the largest outside diameter tire I've heard of anyone running without a lift is 245/70R16, which is a 29.5" tire. Going with a 15" rim will net you some more rubber between the rim and the ground, but I don't see any reason why it would let you fit a larger tire. Make sure when you pick a 15" rim that it fits around the discs (forum lists some that fit, but you may be fine with others, just make sure to test-fit before you buy). You mentioned that you're looking for the most bang-for-the-buck without lifting, though, so I'd have to say go with 245/70R16 and put them on the same rims. Buying new rims won't get you a larger outside diameter and it really cuts into the bang-for-the-buck (compare the cost of a set of 5 15" rims to the cost of a spacer lift or similar). The optional tire size on the 05 renegade is 235/70R16 (29.0"). You can go another 1/2 inch in diameter (245/70R16 29.5") with no problem, but I don't know of many (any?) people with anything larger than that under an unlifted liberty (without major trimming, at least). AFAIK the fender flares aren't the first place they will rub, and there isn't much of a difference between the models to make a tire fit vs not-fit. |

Just looking at it (even with the steering locked to the side), it looks like you may be able to fit a 255/70/R16 30" on a stock Liberty/Renegade... any thoughts? |

Did you measure that while it was parked, or including the suspension travel? I say go for it! Here are the worst case scenarios I can think of, and as you can guess, they aren't all that bad: - You get some rubbing, so you have to trim some of the wheel-well lining, pound in the pinch-weld, etc - You stuff and pop the fender off. Not the end of the world. - You get em in and can't stop the rubbing, so you decide to get a lift or a different size. There's always the option to go for a wider tire with a smaller aspect, too. Not very common, but I have heard of 255/65R16 and 265/65R16 tires fitting. Wider than 265 might be a problem, but if you just want more width, that's an option. If you want more height, lifting is a good way to get some big meat under there. |

I run a 245/75 without a lift. Offroad I got some rubbing and had to do some trimming on the inner fenders, nothing anymore than some who have lifts. I didn't trim any in the rear and with a lot of flex it rubs a little but nothing up front. |

Wow, i didn't think it was possible to clear a 245/75 on a stock liberty sport... what kind of tire did you run? Also how much of a difference if any is there between a 235/75/16 and a 245/70/16...what would look better on a stock liberty... I am looking to get mud tires to fit if possible, if not All Terrain TA ko's. |

I put those tires on and had some rubbing here and there, so I just took the inner fenders out. Only took about 30 min. or so. If you do that you'll have to relocate your washer fluid resivor. I just used the original, just had to modify it a little. I only rub in the back if I am really flexing offroad. I run a General Grabber AT2, it has pretty much the same pattern as a BFG AT. So far they are awsome, I was really wanting a mud terrain tire, but these tires are impressive. They look really good also. A mt would probably look alot better but these skins are good on and off road. |
