Post subject:  Tire Question

I have a couple questions about a few tires. I have the famous Wrangler ST tires which are horrible. on a 2005 Liberty 4x4. I drive 95% street 5% gravel dirt road (to take mtn bike), plus it snows once or twice a year 1 or 2 inches so basically nothing. I need something that rides great on street and handles well in the rain. The Revo's are raved about everywhere, but how is there road noise compared to stock tires? Below are a listing of a tires I have been looking at in no paticular order.

1) Bridgestone A/T Revo P235 70R16
2) Bridgestobe H/P P235 70R16
3) Bridgestone APT III P235 70R16
4) BFG AT P235 70R16 not sure about noise
5) Michelin 4x4 Synchrome P235 70R16
6) Yoko AT P235 70R16 not to sure about this a couple friends could never get them balanced.
7) General Grabber UHP P235 70R16
8) Goodyear Fortera TripleTred P235 70R16
9) Yokohoma AVS S/T p245 70R16

Thanks for any help

I know you didn't list the Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armor's, but we bought a set and they're great. They don't ride rough, are very quiet, and stick like glue in rain/snow/mud.

Also consider the Firestone Destination A/Ts in 245/70. I replaced all 5 tires on my '05 Renegade and find that they track better, are quieter on road, and have much better grip than the stock STs. I also like to the look much better - it is well suited to the Jeep. They are less expensive than the Revos and have similar ratings on Tirerack.com.

BFG AT all the way. They are great in all off road conditions except deep mud, have a strong 3 ply sidewall, wear like iron, and are great on the highway. They are great in snow and on wet roads.

The drawbacks are the cost and they are a little noisy. Nothing terrible though. I actually like the sound.

I second the BFG AT KOs.. That is what I am getting on mine after I install my lift.. I currently have them on my YJ and they are a great tire..

I just got the REVOs in 235/70/16 a week ago and love them so far. We've had 5+ inches of rain in that period and am so happy to have them. They are a little louder than the horrible RS-As it had but the ride is smoother. We're headed to NM in a couple of weeks so we'll see how they are on the highway and trails. I plan on being very impressed!

Haven't had a chance to test my Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armor's in an off-road environment yet but on the street they ride smooth and actually seem to be a little more quiet than the stock tires. Even on the street they seem to be more stable than the stock tires but that could be because my Silent Armr's are the light truck version not the passenger version (tougher sidewalls in the truck version). I've always had Goodyear tires on my vehicles and they've all worn well. Any of the tires mentioned will be better than the stock ones that come with the KJ though. :)

I`ve had the Revos on for 32,000 and they are simply a great tire for all conditions. I`ve put them through torrential downpours, deep snow, and serious off roading and I couldn`t have been happier. They are a more "street" tire than the BFG`s, etc.

With that said, in your case as you describe, probably any of those tires will do a great job. Probably your best bet is to go whichever is the cheapest route unless you really end up wanting to try a certain tire. It`s all up to personal preference.
