Kelly Safari MSR

Just when I thought I had made up my mind on tires, I stumbled upon these. Any experience with these tires?

I found one review (very positive) online where they were tested on a Wrangler.

i have an opinion on those
they are great i ran them for about 25-30K on my '98 ford ranger that weighed about the same as a KJ (ex cab 4.0 4X4 5speed)
they still had plenty tread when i got my 33" and more lift so i kept them put them on my tj when i got it an ran them for about another 5k they still looked good but after 6 years they some dry rot and i blow one out on a log
they did very well on dry steep trails and not to bad at all in the mud the side wall is not as thick as a MTR so i dont know about rocks

Thanks for weighing in, Jason. It's a moot point now, as I ordered a set of General Tire Grabber AT2 on Friday. They're due to arrive from the warehouse today, and I'll have them installed later today or on my lunch hour tomorrow. Can't wait!

If you were talking to me, I just got the Generals installed on my lunch break today and don't have pix yet. Big difference in handling and appearance! Looks more like a real Jeep now, and my KJ sits noticeably taller now; not much, but enough to notice. Time to get her dirty! I forget to bring my camera to work this morning. I'll post some photos tonight or tomorrow.

I'm running 33 psi now, which is where the Tire Barn said they should be. (MFG says 44 psi max.) 33 psi seems a little low to me, but they were concerned about excess noise at higher pressure. Wouldn't 38 psi or so be better for pavement? I'll post this question in the Grabber thread.

the general graber at and the kelly are 2 differant animals all to geather its like comparing apples and oranges
one is an All Terain and on is a Mud Terain

I know this is an old thread, but does anyone else have any experience with this tire?

I was all set on getting me some Cooper Discoverer S/T's, but then saw a set of Kelly Safari MSR's on a pick-up today, and I liked how they looked.

I was planning on the S/T's because the P rated 245/75's aren't that big 30.4" and not too heavy 39lbs. which was exactly what I'm looking for. Plus I can get four mounted, with road hazard and the works for under $500.

I haven't found the weight for the MSR's, nor do I know how much they cost, but I'm searching for that info. Any info on this tire would be appreciated.

jason t., are you saying the MSR is a mud tire, because I thought they listed it as an A/T on their site?

If anyone else is interested:

I e-mailed Kelly/Goodyear, and they responded and said the Kelly Safari MSR P245/75R16 weighs only 36.5 lbs. The stock Goodyear SR-A 235/70/16's weigh in at 32 lbs. Not much of a difference. I wonder how stong/weak they are?

I've been quoted prices betweem $110 - $127 installed per tire, from local shops.

Now all I need is for someone to tell me how much they liked these tires, or hated them, to help me decide...

How is the on-road noise with these tires?

quiet when they were new but when tey got old and hard from dry rot they got louder still not bad though

Thanks, I think you have convinced me to go with this tire.

Well, that and I just found out a friend can get them for me for $89.00 a tire, tax free, through a shop he deals with.

See them a lot on contractor's pickups, when I assked the owner he said he liked them a lot and would buy the again.
