I am looking forward to more products for the KK. Just seems like it's taking some time to get aftermarket stuff for it. I would like to see a brush guard in the near furture. But I do like the rock rails, nice!

Long time lingerer, first time poster - Count me in for roof rails over a skyslider. Just as long as I don't have to worry about them busting off and having my kayaks or canoe take out the car behind me on the highway :D

It will look really odd, but it can be done. The roof slider material is very thick and does not move except one way, and that is in the folds that are at or slight under 7" in height. What I am thinking of doing is taking the main rails for the basket rack, and making crossbars that run from the top of the main bars to each other, just like the sport rack. This would put the rack "floor" up slightly above the top of the slider folds. It's going to put everything way up above the vehicle, but you will be able to carry anything then, and the design of the racks I made hold 300lbs easy without any amount of flex. Here are some pics of the main bars of the Gecko Basket Rack. Price would be the same as the regular basket rack due to complexity of the bends and cost/quantity of material as the 1.25"x.120 wall round tube is more expensive than the 1x1x14ga square tubing used for the flooring, and because the width of the roof gets wider the more toward the front it goes, each crossbar is a different length, and notching round tubing sucks. :D

This has potential . . . is this a final design or simply a start?

I like the the way this is looking.
I would buy one. Kind of looks like the rack on a Pathfinder.

Looking good. Two quick things: the Skyslider opens in two directions, all the way towards the front or all the way towards the back. Also, do you guys think it'd possible to have a lower height roof rack (like the stock one) and just take the crossbars off when you're not using it? There's really no point in having the roof open when you've got stuff strapped to the top anyways.

Not going to happen, sorry. Only thing I could suggest close to that, and a lot cheaper than the custom engineering nightmare you are thinking, is to get the basket rack for KK's without a slider, take it off when not in use and put the factory rails back on. The rack is only about 70lbs and takes two people to put it on/take it off anyways, so not hard to manage, and there are only 8 bolts holding things on up there anyways.

:?: Can I take off the flat, plain factory side molding that came with the skyslider and replace it with the standard factory side rails? Do they both use the same mounting points? Are there going to be any additional holes or anything that would look bad?
Do the side rails mount from the top or do you have to get behind the headliner?
Does anyone have any siderails they would like to sell (black not chrome)?
