Oh, you want the full convo? It went something like this

Your 'said' airfilter disentegrated and is now inside my engine

-Sir, what we can do is forward you to our customer support

10+ phone calls later someone finally tells me what I need to do, so I do it

this involves mailing them a bag of crap that didn't manage to pass through the intake, pieces that were stuck inside the carb, and any charred remains that I was able to recover including what was left of the K&N shell

paid the postage and mailed it in

2 months later they finally contacted me and said that they were unable to properly determine whether or not it was indeed a K&N airfilter that I had installed

two more phone calls up the chain and they literally told me to stop calling them about it

aka ..

F*** Off.

The K&N's for our Jeeps are manu'ed differently, thus my point

failure on another app does not mean failure on our app
nor does success on another app mean success on our app

jeep4X4, This thread got a little off topic. But there is a lot of good info.
Hope your question was answered.

Just a little more info. If folks are interested.

The 07+ Nitro (KA) and the 08+ Liberty (KK), do not have a mass air flow (MAS/MAF) sensor. They use a combination of a manifold absolute pressure (MAP) sensor, intake air temperature (IAT) sensor, and 2 oxygen (O2) sensors. These sensors communicate with the engine control unit (ECU), which calculates the "correct" amount of fuel to inject into the cylinders.
The MAP sensor on the 3.7 is located on the front bottom of the intake manifold. On the 4.0 it is located on the left inside of the upper intake manifold.
Both locations of the MAP sensors are too far from the filter to be adversely affected by the small amount of oil on the K&N filter.

You could get oil buildup on the IAT, which is located in the air inlet duct, but that should not adversely affect the air Temp reading.

I check my IAT regularly, because the CCV hose attached to the air box also allows oil to be introduced into the intake system, post filter. So far so good. But I will never say never...

Since we don't have MAF sensors now what ... Do you have any idea what your talking about ...

I did have a problem with the K&N filter. It was oiling down my MAF sensor. I would pull the MAF at each oil change and it was coated in oily (and dusty!!!) stuff.

doesn't work well with the MAF sensors in newer vehicles , I tried it when I got the Liberty and had problems

So maybe it's not the K&N but the CCV hose ... Don't be so quick to jump on something when you don't know what your really talking about!

soooo anyway.....

Amsoil does not yet make an Ea series for the KK so I can't offer one to try against the K&N. I wouldn't necessarily call a K&N junk but I would Never run them on any vehicle subjected to dusty conditions. K&N's are designed to flow lots of air but they are also known by many to also flow lots of fine dust too. They have even mentioned that their filters filter better the dirtier they get. (tried finding that again on their site but couldn't get it to load right now) So you gotta wonder what they do when clean? :?

Anyhow, If your driving is mostly on road or in locations where there is little to no dust (those wet, rainy areas of the country) then a K&N would probably be fine. Personally, I am against using them in any application due to them being old technology. Why special oil and clean them when you can do better w/ a dry media filter w/out having to do all that?

Just my HO on the subject.

Well, I have an 07 KJ. Which does have a MAF sensor. But sounds like KK and KA should not have that problem. Go for it. Let us all know what results you get. I too have always been a K&N fan. It was my first choice for KJ. But since I had troubles, I switched to Amsoil. :D

So is there a AMSOIL EA Airfilter that would fit in the air box for the KK yet? Does anyone know the dimensions of the stock air filter to match up with one of these?

http://www.amsoil.com/products/ea_filte ... sions.aspx

I'd like to get a dry filter as my last truck had one and I would rather just get one of these then digging up more money for a K&N filter or putting even more money on a CAI.

Edit: It looks like this one http://www.amsoil.com/catalog.aspx?code=EAA201-EA fits the KJ, doest the KK have the same air filter?

I love these debates! My buddy put it best. He said it's crazy how people hop on the bashing bandwagon. He bought a jetta for his wife and everyone busted his balls for getting a vw. He said how many people bring their perfectly running automobile to the dealer and say "hey, look at my perfectly running automobile"? No one does. Therefore mechanics only fix the broken ones. My point is that a few people have problems with brand x and make a huge deal about it, meanwhile the vast majority of satisfied people using brand x don't make a sound. Really, if you don't even know that chrysler uses speed density systems, NOT MASS AIR, you shouldn't be claiming a product by brand x is ruining a part on your vehicle that you don't even have! You are the direct cause of misinformation. You keep fueling the fire of ignorance.
Read the studies. Analyze the data. Learn the concepts of air induction and realize that most oil on the mass air flow sensor is coming from the pcv valve, not the brand x air filter. Unless you are over oiling the air filter. Which is a strong possibility, considering anyone who believes the claims about oil from an air filter making it's way to the sensor on a naturally aspirated engine is probably not following simple oiling instructions.
These arguments and debates are absolutely mind boggling to me.
Do people really believe that a company would sell a defective part, let alone build an empire selling only that type of part for decades now? Can't people act and speak maturely and knowledgeably about issues and preferences rather than devolve into the whole is so is not is to is not uh huh nah nah yes no yes no.
Rant over.
Sooo how's everybody doing?

:-)r Just stating my experience. And no, I was not over-oiling. I have used K&N in multiple previous vehicles and motorcycles and loved them. But for some reason had an issue with it on the KJ. The "issue" may not even be a "problem", but it did bother me. So I simply went to a dry filter. I went with Amsoil. A plain ol' Fram filter prolly would have fixed my issue too. Sensor stays clean and dry now. No other changes made. No need to get all

ok my two cents....

I have a K&N on my Turbo MINI, one on my VW Jetta, and one of my KJ....all GREAT...

however....

Put the drop in the KK and my gas mileage dropped two miles to the gallon consistently....put the original back in, and up it went....I cant explain this one...

Interesting... has anyone tried a Green drop-in filter in their KK? I was looking at either this or a K&N to replace my current one. I would really prefer a dry filter but there's nothing out there.

I had a K&N drop in and it didnt seem to make a bit of difference. Now wether it truly does let in smaller particles or not who knows. But since it didnt make a difference in MPGs or HP i threw in a Fram Double Guard, this way i know the so called smaller particles are filtered. Anyway i didnt buy my Jeep for MPGs or HP, just for being able to go anywhere and have fun doing it.
