that sucks... i hate techs sometimes, he probably ate 2 doughnuts too.

give a call to the manager, complain a little not too much just a little, mention about the drive, tell them the noise is still there, and you found out that the lift that the tech is blaming it on, doesn't make up the difference of the lift on the steering shaft. It stays the same and offer to compare it to another on their lot. An extension is not required.

Describe the clicking, if it is lighter and feels like it is in the wheel then its the clockspring, if it is harder, and feels lower, like legs and feet area, then it is likely a steering shaft that needs lubrication or replacement. Since the tech said if it's not the shaft, you need a clockspring- be sure they have one on hand when you come in for your appointment.

Remind them what a pita it is to be bringing back and forth with no answers especially after you brought doughnuts last time!

Be nice, don't complain too much, but gently persuade him into helping you. Service managers get b***hed at all the time, just don't be an jerk and he should help you out.

Ya its definitely in the very top of the steering wheel that the click is happening. I put my hand on the steering column on the engine side of the firewall while someone turn the wheel back and forth and there was no noise in then engine bay and no clicking or weird movement on the steering column. The noise seems to be coming from the top of the steering wheel itself and its not that strong of a click.

Called back the tech i spoke with and explained that since its a UniBody that the steering column doesn't get over extended and that it was probably the Clock Spring and wanted to get it looked at. The technician sounded pissed off and stated "OK I guess so let me get you the Service Manager to set it up."So im dropping it off Wed Night to have it looked at Thursday. Will keep you guys posted.

Update: Dropped the Jeep off last night and got a PT Cruiser in exchange for a rental lol, what a deal. But anyways, they called today to say they thought they had a clock spring in stock but didn't and ordered it and said they will have it tomorrow and install it. So lets hope this fixes the problemo.

wel glad the tried your way this time...

I would still keep inspecting the whole moving colums to see if anything else his hitting it. like zip ties or connectors or other things.

I never looked at this so, i am guessing at this point... Sorry if this was already talked about.

Turn up the radio and maybe that will fix it as well.

Ever since I changed rims and tires to 245 75 R16 GY MTRs With K on steel rims I hear a noise, harmonic whatever from some area over in front of the passenger area. Its probably a panel or something plastic. I turn the radio up. What noise?

Here is one for you Graham

Many newer cars come with electronic brake force distribution (EBD). In gentle stops the system uses the rear brakes substantially, even though there is little weight there. Since the stop is gentle, there is no chance of instability that this might cause in a hard stop. The front brakes then wear less and stay cooler. In hard stops EBD transfers most brake force to the front brakes, where most of the weight is, as older front-heavy cars did. New VW's have this system.

If you use the brakes gently, you are likely to see more brake dust on the rear wheels than you are used to because of EBD in action

Can we confirm the presence of this system in the KK?
