Hopefully its not stripped.Don't know if you used penetrating oil first,if not try it now. Then try to re-tighten it a little and then re-oil. Then try to remove. Impact may help, heat if its safe. If it is stripped there are many options, none easy without proper tools. One an easy-out(tool) you have to drill and then use the easy-out it's hard for me to describe. Good luck.

Make sure your using the right socket, its metric! It wont work even if its close with a SAE socket...

We put a Hidden Hitch on ours shortly after getting it.
Image

You can pretty much see it in this pic (if I did this right, I'm at work and forum pics don't show up). It's not really hidden but it's a class 3 with a 4 pin, which will be a 7 pin soon because I can't tow our little camper with the 4 pin.

Thanks for the advice, I ended up getting it off after some violence. It was slightly cross-threaded and did not want to come off. Should have been a 10 minute install but ended up being a pain. After I got that bolt off it only took a minute. It was definitely worth paying a little bit extra for the OEM hitch as it is tucked underneath more than other brands.

I finally bought the OEM hitch. But, when I went to remove the one bolt that must come off and be replaced, I got it about half way until it became really tight again. I tried to crank it and it started to strip. Any ideas for how to get this thing off, its stuck about half way and won't go. Any help is appreciated...

by no means am i a mechanic or a gear minded person..but my laymens suggestion would be..

lube what thrread is showing on the part that is out, then re-tighten the bolt and attempt to lube the other half that is now showing on thetop end. With any luck the lubed sections would have overlapped so you know you got the whole bolt. Then look to see if there are any visibly damaged threads. Not sure of the strength of the bolt, but on others ive taken a chissel and removed the damaged parts and then attempted to loosen it out again.

Like i said im not a gear head but this has worked for me on other projects. good luck! :JEEPIN:

Follow up question: Is there any reason why I can't use a cheaper wiring kit, like one found on eBay at $59 that is for a Curt hitch? I think the dealer wanted something like $120+ for the OEM wiring kit.

im guessing the ebay one is 4 pin and the oem is a 7 pin connector. if all youre ever gonna pull is a small trailer that uses the 4 pin you should be fine with the cheap one.

I went with the Mopar, it fits in the wire harness bracket correctly and is easy to connect. But it is expensive.

Congrats Tom!!

I've been quietly looking for one around central ohio and have had no luck so far. The only one I've found locally is at a dealership and they want the full $227 for it. I swear sometimes that craigslist has some kind of Liberty blocker on the columbus auto parts list...there almost nothing on there EVER.

I think my old hitch is sold, if not I'll let you know. The KK hitch works if you do the Mudd cut off ( of the rear bumper)

Oh I'll have the Mudd cutoff rear bumper...just as soon as I can find some time to play/work on the KJ. I have the tools I need and now I even have some more room in the garage...I can actually find things in there now. I'm planning on tinkering around with the front bumper too. Anyone know about glues that would really hold pieced of the front bumper together after some cutting?

The OEM one tucks up and under the bumper out of sight while the non OEM ones sit lower. The OEM one also has a welded bracket for the OEM 7 pin plug.
