I wish they kept the 3.5 The build options are endless. Paxton super charger, cams, headers, everything. You could even buy a Prowler stroker 5.0 and dump it in.

While this was a proven engine, it was an ancient design that used a timing belt. If they added a chain and VVT this engine would surely make a great contender, and make the same changes with the 4.0 as the base truck engine.

I also think they should've stuck the 4.0 in the liberty, just like the nitro...

The 4.0 is not what you want, junk engine and pretty much done at 80k.

It isn't the 4.0 I6 that was in older Jeeps. The Nitro's 4.0 is a V6.

You guys must really think making a car is as easy as putting parts together?

Logistics
Packaging
Parts
Platforms
Availability
Capacity
Emissions
Program Requirements

I could go on and on as to the reason why there was no 4.0L V6 in the Liberty. It got the 3.7L for a reason.

That is why they stayed with the 3.7. My father, now retired, has an automotive engineering degree and worked in the industry. The battles between engineering and peanut counters has not changed a bit.

Yeah I know that. Digging through the forums it said the 4.0 v6 would be an option in the liberty just like the nitro, but it was dropped for some reason. It needs that extra power boost along with one more gear

How bout a 318 V8. I'd be willing to bet that it'd fit and run the gas mileage up close to 20 mpg. It they can put a high performance hemi in any other unibody vahicle, the KK should handle an old van motor without any trouble. :2cents:

Honestly for the best trouble shooting a 5.7l hemi from a newer Ram with vvt would get the best MPGs. If price werent an option just add in the new 8 speed trans, but 6 would be ok also.

We drive around 4000+lbs Jeeps. Adding a few extra 100s is going to matter much. LOL

The extra power could make up for the added weight of the hemi as well. Bigger engine working less is always more efficient than a smaller engine working hard. Speaking of which, didn't the Commander get worse mileage when equipped with the 3.7 rather than the 4.7?

On a KK it would cost more then what a brand new WKII fully loaded with every option after messing with the wiring and computer tuning.

I had a feeling all the electronics and computer would be the hardest/most expensive part.

Yep considering it would have to be 100% custom since Chrysler or any dealership will laugh at you.

and for years you were saying putting a 4.7 in a KJ would cost you 20 30k and there is a guy on list that is getting it done for so far 3 grand i think and doing the work himself
