Have any of you guys put an exhaust on it or a cold air intake? Maybe a throttle body spacer?

As someone new to the site, you probably don't know yet that Tommudd is one of the most experienced and respected Jeepers on LOST. He's personally installed more than 30 Liberty lifts!

From being on here since '11, I've read a lot of posts on cold air intakes and performance mods for our 3.7. The stock air cleaner is basically a CAI already, because it is sucking in outside air from behind the headlight. Some people have swapped in K&N's, which add a cool sucking noise, but no real performance gains. They also let more particles reach your engine... not a good thing. Throttle body spacers have no real value for the 3.7. Jet chips and such get un-learned by the engine computer in short order.

There are two things that really do seem to provide more oomph. One is to swap the 3.7's electric throttle body for a larger one from the 4.7L V-8. The other is the Hypertech Programmer. Links below.
4.7 TB: http://www.lostjeeps.com/forum/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=88&t=79781
Hypertech: http://www.lostjeeps.com/forum/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=88&t=75931

Exhausts like Magnaflow, Flowmaster, etc. have been tried as well. Nobody I've seen has swapped in a larger exhaust header on the engine. If you do that, you might be the first.

Yes I am looking to lift. Want to stay away from spacer lifts but I also dont want to spend $3000.
Really just looking for a more aggressive look while not running into any problems. Could anyone provide me with a link to an air shield delete tutorial or how to. Also I am in the Port Jeff area.
Here are few setups I like:
Image
This is Boblemoche's KK. He had a custom lift that sat over 4", ran 33s, and had custom bumpers and sliders. If I remember correctly he had some issues. I haven't seen him in a long time.

Image
Looks good, but before Tom gets to it, the tires are too big for the lift. The owner probably did a lot of cutting and still doesn't have room to turn or flex without rubbing big time.

Image
Same as before, looks good, but won't turn or flex. Tom has said somethings about this 1 before... lol

Image
This is Musclezmarinara's KK. He sold it a year or so ago for a Ram. His was built like mine, 3.5" of lift and 245/75-16s. Here's his build thread: viewtopic.php?f=88&t=63889

Now that I mentioned all that, you PM'ed me earlier for pics of my KK. There's a few floating around, and I don't have any recent ones on my photo bucket so these are from when I first installed the lift and tires:
Image
Image

I've since pulled the air dam off and added sliders etc.

I run OME 927/731 springs, 1/4" top plate, 3/8" clevis lift, a-arms, and 2 extra rear isolators per side and 245/75-16 Duratracs. Back when I first lifted this was all had for $1200(plus tires) to my door. Then I did the install myself at a buddy's shop. Prices have gone up and this costs around $1300-1400. It'll give 3.5" of true lift from new-stock height.

If you want lower, or bare minimum for 245/75-16. You can look at Ironman or OME. Both will run around $800 and get 2.5" of lift. I'm pretty sure lfhoward linked to the lift FAQ. It'll explain everything in detail.

If you have the money, JBA is the best kit out there. The front adjustable coil overs cost $1500 alone though. The 2.5" kit is about $2k, and the 4" is $4k.

As for install, Scar0 made a great how-to for the JBA lift. Every lift basically installs the same way, some you need to compress springs etc.

Almost forgot, you mentioned performance. Do a little reading around, most find that a CAI and exhaust just makes noise. You're lucky enough(I think) to be able to get a hyper tech tuner. It's the only sure fire mod that the ecu won't readjust for.

Some have also tried the 4.7L throttle body and find small gains.

there are plenty of posts about swapping out the throttle body with a 4.7l from another engine. from what I have read, they have fit the nice price to performance area. once the ecu figures out what you did, the numbers will start to settle down though. maybe ill be lucky and get 14mpg...... one thing is for sure, you will have a "snappier" acceleration.

I took the short 4 inch long tube that connects the air box to the headlight for the air. the moment I did that the engine awoke from its sleep. and yes, it is sucking in the air from the engine bay currently, although it is no issue in the winter, summer may be an issue if not on the highway.

What is the largest wheel and tire setup you could run with the OME and the clevis lift that BMxer is running?

there are a few members on here that have a 4.7L throttle body from a few 2008 FCA cars. I plan on doing this mod after I move this year. I removed the tube from my intake box, no mileage improvement, but the engine awoke! now, it is sucking the engine bays air, but im not concerned at all especially since its winter and the warmest day was 50 degrees a couple of days ago. regearing is a major improvement. im not regeared yet. I got my current 245s on in winter so I have not seen the true effect they have on my acceleration yet.

throttle body spacers look cool... that's it. if you want to supercharge your KK, go for it and come back with a write up cause that would be cool to have on one of my jeeps one day. there are jet chips out there that temporarily improve speed and fuel mileage, not sure how long it takes for the ecu to realize what you did.

my KK is fast enough with out regearing and a true cold air intake. but would be nice if a had a true cold air intake exactly like pictured below.

The top plate is 1/4" and the clevis is 3/8". If you go with Ironman front springs go with 1/2" clevis, if you choose OME front springs go 3/8". My lift combines both to get 3.5". It's a great setup, but you need aftermarket a-arms which adds money.

As for tires, stay at/under a 31 to avoid regearing. Most go with 245/75-16, or if you want a little wider, 265/70-16. Both will fit with about 2.5-3" of lift.

PA, 3.7s don't do well with boost. A few people have tried in the past and they ended up blowing the engines. The only real ways to get power out of the 3.7 is a tune, and regearing.

more testing then! im sure there are better rockers and pistons and such that could handle the high compression. the JK wranglers seem to have a lot of superchargers on them. I know its a completely different engine inside and out, but it would be interesting to see a supercharged KK.

KYLiberty did a bunch of testing back a few years ago, had the blown up 3.7s sitting in his garage to prove it.
Kenne Bell made one for a very short time until they figured out 3.7 will not hold any boost
So you're not going to be seeing a supercharged KK

No boost sadly. You can be the first v8 swap in a KK though. Mopar 4.7 or a GM small block LS would probably be the "easiest". It'll take a lot of time and money though.

You can always buy one of those fake turbo sounding things that bolt to your tailpipe and pretend ! :-)r

Thanks a lot Gentleman, you have been really helpful. Anyone have some tires they recommend? I think I want 265/70/16 for a little more agressive look.

I've been running the General Grabber AT2s. These actually did phenomenal last winter when they were new. I could plow through 1/4mi of snow that was taller than than the bottom of the door with no issues. 20,000mi of bad alignments later I'm at 6/32s (they start of 17/32s). So if actually took care of these tires than I can 30,000mi out of them before getting to 6/32s. I had gotten 4 of them for $600 flat from discounttiredirect.com.

I start school again on Monday, I'll be up in Stonybrook 4 days a week 8)

I personally like my Duratracs. They're in-between A/Ts and M/Ts. Not as aggressive as a mud tire, but more aggressive than most all terrains. They're still considered all terrains though. They do well on the beaches(they can dig quick though), never had to use 4wd in any of our snow storms, and dirt/mud they've never had problem when I would go upstate. On the road, they hum a bit and you feel them in the pedals. They also seem to kill mileage(I get 13-15 average with the larger tires, I used to get 17mpg). Some have gotten them in stock size and notice a mile or 2 less per gallon. And aesthetically they look good

What tires did you find in a 255-75-16 size ? Very few made its an odd ball size
Are they doing your regear as well?
