Yes I did, couldn't pass up the deal lol.

Nice, Bmxer524!!! You could sell your OME components afterwards to offset some of the cost. You're going to love the JBA ride.

Today my KK threw a rod  (or at least that's the preliminary diagnosis). It still idles but it sounds like the squirrels in there are on strike. :dizzy: I may need a new motor. :dead:

No jeep for a time while this gets sorted out. :ALONE:
Looks like I will be going to work on the train on Monday morning!

I probably will. Depends on what I do with the lift. I know for a fact I'm using the JBA fronts. Not sure about the rears. I'll have to play

Hope all goes well with the Jeep. Maybe it's time for a v8 swap

dcbelcher26, I like the black!

ATH, took long enough lol. Keep us posted on how it fits with everything.

Knightenforcer, it honestly was. I couldn't pass it up. Even took the hour drive upstate to meet him and pick it up. Got a nice ride out of it and an awesome kit.

Only 86K.
It's always had a slight knock. I posted this thread a while ago about the noise, but my oil analysis and most responses on the forum just pointed to it being a noisy engine. No extra metals in the oil indicating wear. Something internal just gave out today.

Please keep us posted, Lauren! Maybe that noise you were hearing was this, or maybe not. Did it crap out on the highway or was it hard to start or....?

I had just climbed a long hill at 35 mph and stopped at a stop sign at the top. Taking off again, something gave out inside the engine. All of a sudden, there was a very loud irregular clattering! I pulled off to the shoulder and popped the hood. It still idled, but was not happy. The noise was much louder/worse above 1000-1500 rpm, so I could barely limp it anywhere. Decided to turn it off and call a tow truck rather than risk any more damage. Luckily this happened at under 20 mph rather than at interstate speeds!

Back at the garage, the mechanic started it up and listened to it while another tech gave it a little gas. He said it sounded like the clattering sound was coming from low down in the engine, so he suspected a rod bearing had gone out. If so, we'd be looking at an engine swap. I will find out more on Monday.

If you do end up with an engine swap....go big and get a 4.7 lol Hopefully everything works out for you.

I actually looked into this after I read your post. From what I can tell, the few people who started the 4.7 swap in the Liberty were enthusiastic at first but were never able to get it to work. I wasn't able to find a completed build thread. There are electronics issues and compatibility issues with the transmission if you don't have an '02 KJ. Also, there isn't enough room in the engine compartment for the crush zones to work in an accident. This is not to say it isn't possible, but there would be a lot of technical hurdles and lots of money involved! I want to get mine back on the road ASAP for a reasonable price, so I will most likely swap in a low mileage 3.7 from the 2007-2008 model year so everything will be plug and play. I would love to find a motor in good shape with 20,000 miles on it or less. TwoBobsKJ found one with only 9,700 miles for his engine swap! With a practically new engine, my KK should last for a very long time.

Anyone know if these are any good? I'm looking for a cross bar with a large weight capacity. I'm looking to throw a lighter 12 foot boat on top as well as my canoe. This is the highest capacity I could find atm. http://www.amazon.com/Rola-59711-Univer ... cross+bars

Actually no CEL. I pulled over within 500 feet after whatever it was failed.

I am happy with my Rola basket so I imagine their bars are good too. For about 1/3 of the price you could have stronger bars. Here is what I did:

I used 6 foot, 3/4 inch diameter galvanized pipes for the crossbars, and held them down to the side rails with stainless steel 5/16 inch U-bolts with nylock nuts. I put rubber washers in between the pipes and side rails to prevent slippage or denting the side rails by the round pipes. Here are some photos for you.

Original design idea: (note: I ended up using galvanized pipe instead of conduit.)

Testing the setup: (note: The final setup will use lock nuts.)

All finished:

The roof bars are solid. I hauled a lot of gear in my roof basket over the summer and had zero issues. If you are worried about the bars sticking out on the sides, you could trim the pipes so your bars will match the width of your Jeep. JeepNCrowd trimmed his and they look good. I like to have them stick out so I can fasten long items like fishing poles or an awning for camping. It's also handy to be able to hold onto the pipe when standing on the tire and loading gear into the roof basket. It might be good for hauling a boat and a canoe simultaneously to have the extra width too.

So it's currently at a shop?
I hope it's something easy and not expensive.

Yup, I had it towed to my mechanic yesterday afternoon. It was too late to really do much, so I'll have to wait until after the weekend to find out what is really going on. They do suspect a rod bearing though. Based on what I've read, and what they told me, a new engine is probably the best solution if that's what it is. By the time they take the engine out to tear it down and replace that rod bearing and the worn crankshaft and whatever other carnage they find, you might as well just swap in a new engine for the amount of work it is.

He was selling the 2.5" kit for $500. Had to jump on it for that price lol. I don't have OME struts. I'm running OME front springs and Bilstein front shocks. If I do sell it(if/when the time comes), I might just sell it preassembled. Not too sure on any of it yet.

Not too worried either for now. I still have to/want to clean up the JBA kit, and install it. Probably won't happen til the summer. For the time being I don't have the time to lay up the Jeep.

Oh Lauren, I figured the 4.7 wouldn't happen. As of now, it just seems like too much trouble. Seems like you'd literally have to replace everything, and even then it wouldn't function properly(cpu wise atleast...). Good luck on the 3.7 search though. You might be able to get away with up to 2010s as well. I think 2011 was the reprogram.

Car-part.com is telling me that the 2007-2008 engines are a direct swap. I'm sure we could make a newer one work, but there would be additional things to change. For example, I think the 2009 model had different ignition coils. And definitely, yes, the 2011 and up use a different electronics system. I am probably going to employ the KISS principle and stick with the 07-08 engine.

The 07 engine is the same for the 08 even with the body change?

Also, good idea sticking with the engines the same years.
