Ok, so here in my part of Colorado, it snowing pretty good....at my house i have about 3 inches on the street, so i went out to play. I drove to my park as they have a pretty good sized parking lot. There was a little less snow but i thought it would be fine. First thing, flip a donut...no |

on my '07 kj, you cant completely shut the ESP system down, its still monitoring driving parameters even if you hit the little button. i drove mine today as well, and it sucks major balls. everything is great except the tires, the stock SRA's dont perform well. the traction control could not take a break in this thing. turning requires me to come to a complete stop, then ease forward at 2-3MPH. the ESP was great and the abs was even better, the pedal turns into a brick and the actuators and valves started clicking away just the way it should be!! i dont like these tires at all and i deemed it EXTREMELY unsafe to drive in winter months. so begin operation scion xA; the day before they call for a storm, fill the tank, park neatly in parking space, lock doors, next morning wake up 1.5 hours early, walk to work in the storm! |

I have a feeling all this newfangled electronic crap really wouldn't like the way I drive. Does anyone know if the JK has the same ESP and TCS as the KK? |

Well if it would ever snow here on the south side of the Springs I just put in 4WD and let my front TT lead where ever I want to go.I think a front TT is way better then any ESP/traction control ever made, god is it nice, and no cutting of power |

Pushing the esp button (at least in my 06) completetly disables any throttle reduction...traction control and stability control remain...but I can still whip it around in 2wheel if its real slick, although doing multiple donuts is next to impossible on anything but a sheet of ice. All 4 will throw snow when I get on it. The only way to completly disable everything would be to pull abs fuse and push esp button....then you could go play. But then you wouldnt have traction control either so it wouldnt have as good of traction.... |

oh they will find out, don't worry. The 08 KK has a little black box recorder that records up to 5 seconds and at least a couple of seconds after air bag deployment. |

I haven't had my KJ in snow yet but I am looking foreward to it. I can get a pretty good fishtail on moderately wet pavement witht the ESP off so I can't imagine too much trouble on snow. |

All vehicles with air bags built after '96 have that capability,it's all stored in the airbag control module. It records speed, gear in,if the brakes where applied, and such.In 2 1/2 years working at a dealership bodyshop not once did those controllers every get sent to get info extracted, not even in hit and runs where a death resulted.Just replaced and threw the old one away.99% percent of the time they won't check those things since it costs alot to extract that info, maybe on high profile cases like the princess Diana type accident.

Man that's too bad about the no-donut capability... It's always fun to slide around in the winter months. |

tires had an effect too, but snow isn't freezing to the ground yet so just wait until it really starts to get the ground cold and then go have fun...its hard for me to get the tires loose too when i want to do donuts in 3 inches of snow |

The JK you can COMPLETELY disable the ESP/BAS/TCS system by depressing and holding for a few seconds the "ESP OFF" button on the lower center console..... The message "ESP OFF" will appear on the odometer. By pressing and releasing immediately the ESP OFF button, will put the ESP system into "Part Time" mode similar to the Libertys current function. Pressing and holding: Shuts it off completely (For you donut lovers) |

Hopefully the JK will get a more powerful V6 or a diesel option soon so I can buy a nice used one a few years down the road. |

I had a chance to get into some really deep loose sand today. In 4 wheel high, I can tell the ESP is engaged, there's no way I could get the thing moving sideways. If I push the ESP Off button, it displays a little icon on the instrument cluster of 4 wheels skidding or sliding. The Odometer is normal. If I go to 4 wheel Low, even though I have not pushed the ESP Off button, the same little icon lights up, and where the Odometer is normally, the display reads "ESP OFF". You can definitely tell it's off, I was able to get sideways in the sand. |

ok..every thing you said is correct..what jeger was asking is can you totally disable the esp..yes and no, while in two wheel, you can only partially disable it...but if you move it in tp 4hi and hold the button for 5 seconds, you can shut it off in tell you are going over 40mph then it engages again...once you drop below 40, it disengages |

ok, yeah, I was going to post that too. If I'm in 4 wheel Hi mode, and push the button and hold it, the instrument cluster says ESP OFF. Don't know about it re-engaging though in 4 wheel Hi, I didn't go over 40 MPH. |
