Post subject:  Two (minor) gripes...

One week into my KK ownership, I love the thing. It's a fantastic vehicle, comfortable, rides nice, and just looks awesome.

That said, I have found two very minor annoyances with my KK, and maybe you guys can help me out with one or both of them.

1. Windshield defroster/defogger. It doesn't cover the windshield like it should. The lower corners stay fogged up no matter how higher I set the blowers on. Does anyone know of a product that might make the windshield less foggy? Some sort of window cleaner or something that might help the situation?

2. I've noticed a slight ringing noise, mostly on highways. It seems to be coming from the drivers' side, although I'm not sure exactly where, and it sounds like metal chains clinking together. It's very slight and hardly noticible, but I'd like to figure out what it is and maybe silence the problem if possible. Any idea what this could be? Anyone else experience this noise?

#1. RainX spray might help. You can always test it on the passenger side to see if it makes a difference.

I know. :) That's why I consider them minor gripes.

And although it is a Jeep, it's a brand new Jeep with 250 miles on it and I hear what sounds like loose metal rattling around. It's very faint, but still a bit concerning considering how new the thing is.

i dont own one but i hearing about your ringing noise, check your storage pockets on the side of the door and then check to see if its loose change around your KJ, and if its nothing just hangin around then try to pinpoint the sound and take it back to the dealer and tell them...could be slack in wires inside panels im not sure.

on a side note, my dad's friend bought a brand new F-150 and loves it, never had a problem with it, well 2 weeks later he starts hearing this rattle coming from the B-pillar (right where the seat belt mounts) and he cant get rid of it so he takes it to the dealer and they disassemble the B-pillar and come to find a socket wrench stuck in the pillar left there by a disgruntled employee.....this is why you never buy a vehicle with a build date before a 3-day weekend...

you may want to check to roof rack rails..i know that the nitros had a problem with them coming loose...if you pry softly on the back side of the cover, it will come off and there are t nuts that thread on to studs that come out of the roof

Roof racks don't seem to be the culprit. It sounds more like it's coming from behind the dash, possibly right under/behind the gauge cluster. A better way to describe the sound is almost like a computer hard drive... that noice your computer makes when it's reading/writing data. Which is more concerning since that leads me to believe it could be an electrical problem.

And get this: I've realized that it only happens above 45 MPH. And I don't mean around 45. Exactly as the needle crosses 45 it starts. Drop to 44, it stops.

I think I need to make a service appointment. :x

I know it's a different Jeep, but on my LJ, I had a similar noise when I bought it. There was a noticeable whine whenever I was cruising at 50 mph. No higher, no lower and only when I wasn't really on the gas to maintain the speed (like going uphill). So I asked the service department when I was in for something else. The answer I got was that when they changed the catalytic converter and exhaust manifold setup on the 03 and up models it caused a resonance at a certain speed and there was nothing they could do. Since I had my muffler replaced, the sound is still there but has changed in pitch, so I guess he was right. Maybe you have something similar?
