I was wondering if anyone has though of ditching the muffler or the resonater to see what affect it may have on fuel mileage or power? People used to cut out the muffler on ford contours and it gave them a little more pep and a nice sound to boot. So how bout it Diggerfreek, you up for some exhaust mods?

I was looking at changing the muffler but then I would need a shop to bend me that bendy tail pipe section. I wish they didn't weld that section to the muffler. |

So you have something on order to replace the stock muffler? Be sure and keep us posted on your results after your exhaust mod.... So taking off the resonator and swapping out the muffler won't disturb the computer or power curve then? And will this cause any problems with the lifetime power train warranty? Thanks |

All you would need to do to replace the muffler is to cut right in front and right behind the original muffler get one with the same inlet and outlets and weld it in, and what kj in a ts said about the resonator, 1/2 hour job at tops no bending pipes etc. Muffler looks like center in offset out which everyone makes. For the resonater you could always weld in one of those 4 inch BLING chrome tailpipes! I said you could dont do it though |

Honestly, I would try the cheap route of cutting out the muffler and welding or clamping in a straight pipe. The Muffler is what is going to be hit offroad. Leave on the Resonator for now and see how it sounds and performs...cost hardly nothing! |

True that would work well and the resonator would sound pretty good just by itself, someone try it quick! tom |

Gotta say Jeep makes a nice stock exhaust (except for the CRD)...I say remove the stock muffler cleanly (in case you want to put it back in) and clamp a nice piece of pipe in it's place. Leave the rest alone and tell us what it sounds and feels like. |

Xs 2.........gain ground clearance and should sound good as well, a good shop should be able to do that real cheap |
