| Post subject: | 1st Oil Change? |
So I've got about 1500 miles on my new KK now..........any idea when I am supposed to get my first oil change? Those of you new KK owners, what kind of schedule are you working with, or have you been suggested to use? I'm thinking I should change it this week, and then again at 3,000? Tjen maybe every 6,00 miles after that? Thanks for the info |

just wait til your oil change warning light comes on I changed mine at 1,500 and put in Mobil 1 synthetic 5W-20. I found that I can get that at Walmart in a 5 quart container for $21 and some change. In my KJ, I always used Mobil 1 synthetic, and changed the oil at 5,000 miles. If you look around here, there's another discussion on this subject. I think Digger actually took an oil sample and had an analysis done on his oil. |

I droped mine at 1500 and now with 2400 something, i still have not seen the indicator and i drive mine hard (it has been to 100+ many times) and i also have run it in 4x4 a ton between all of the snow and the wheeling i did. we will see for it comes on this week. but to answer your question, im droping mine again at 4500 and 3000 after that. I have castrol syntec in it right now and it sounds a little quieter. |

The oil change warning light is programmable and comes on at the interval which you select. |

Really, where do you do that at? It's part of the overhead computer deal on my '07. Check your manual. Mine can be set for 1,500, 2,000, 3,000, etc., and be re-set after you change the oil. |

the 08's don't have the overhead consul, instead, the limiteds come with evic, which is part of the gauge cluster |

Ah. Does the manual not indicate how to change settings? |

Does the manual not indicate how to change settings? Well if you can change it, there isn't anywhere in the manual that shows you how to do it. Supposedly its monitoring how your driving it and it tells you when it thinks you should change the oil. Theres another thread on here about it and we're all seeing what its going to show on the second oil change. Mine still hasn't come on again and we're at 4700 miles |

If it was my vehicle, I'd darn sure be the one to decide when to change the oil, and not some unseen "presence" who was supposedly monitoring my driving habits and telling me what to do. If there's nothing in the manual to show how to re-set it, I'd tell the service department to disconnect the darn thing. It doesn't take a brain surgeon to get a book of door-jam stickers and keep track of when to change the oil! |

Yes, you can reset it, but the service department didn't do it when I took in for the oil change. You turn the key on depress the accelerator pedal threee times, then turn the key back off.... |

That's different. I was about ready to call Ron Paul's office! |

I'm quite new to the forum (and to owning a Jeep). I have just about 9000 miles on my 08 Liberty. The Change Oil indication has come on at roughly 3000 mile intervals, though it was 2500 miles this time. The last oil change was at 6316 miles and at about 8900 it came on again. It does seem to fluctuate a bit. The first time, it came on at about 3100 miles. ---- 2008 Liberty Sport Red Rock Crystal 6-speed manual Trailer towing package, skid plates, U-connect. |

first i would like to welcome you to the forum!!! Thanks for your input. it seems to me that the computer was programed for 2500 miles if you did mostly city driving, and around 3000 if there was a lot of high way driving. |

| Post subject: | Oil Change Light |
Thanks for telling me how to reset the oil change light. I was going to call Ron Paul also. My light came on at 5800 miles and came on every time I started it, so I needed reset it and will do it in the morning. The owners manual also says to change it at 6000, so the blinkin light was right according to the book. I put in the good stuff "AMSOIL 0-20" being how I plan on keeping this thing for a long time.
