Post subject:  Weird ECU glitch

This cold afternoon I noticed something weird on my Jeep. I had no instrument panel warning lights, my seatbelt light was the only one on(my seat belt was on). My transmission selection panel showed I was in park but yet I was driving down the street. When I turned off the Jeep the instrument panel stayed on. Not wanting to come out to a dead battery I disconnected the negative battery terminal. I hooked up the battery and the problem is gone..... odd. What really sucks is I have a dealership with a small service department so it will have to wait 2 weeks till it can be looked at. :x

thats what I thought. I just wanted to let other owners know about it so they reset thier ECU before it drains the battery.

Post subject:  That's odd for sure

I've not experienced that and hope it doesn't happen to me. Sorry 'bout your luck and thanks for tip about re-settting ECU if it does occur.

I didn't have any problems with the ECU like you did but last night when I was in a mini-snow storm my back-up sensors stopped working and on the EVIC it showed Rear sensor malfunction contact dealer or something to that effect. I saw a light coat of snow on the rear bumpers covering the sensors. I'm thinking the sensors weren't working with the snow. After the snow melted off the bumper the sensors worked perfectly. Anyone else have this problem?

must be a problem with ice...made the car think the sensor was bad because of the signal

yep those sensor work like radar guns. They send out some sound wave and they calculate the distance by how long it takes for the sound to come back. If there is ice, the sound wave is disrupted and it reads as a bad signal. Next time just knock off the snow or ice and you'll be good to go.

They work on the Ultrasonic principle, as toy4everyseason stated. A sound wave pings off the object that is being detected. The technology has been around a long time. It was used in Motion detectors for security systems in the 70's, until it was determined to be too unstable. They constantly false alarmed and thats when infrared technology became the standard. http://f2.pg.briefcase.yahoo.com/bc/trdstr2000@sbcglobal.net/lst?.dir=/Mopar+Park+Sense&.scrumb=qJ4KV7CcPKj that link has an explanation of it.
