| Post subject: | Trail Rated Badge? |
My '08 KK doesn't have a trail rated badge on it. Theyve all earned it though, right? I have the Limited trim, so could it also be it only come on the Sport? I just ordered one but won't put it on unless it's considered trail rated...which I'm 99% sure it is. Thanks! |

Did you get the premium group II with the 18" wheels? If so then the 18" wheels aren't trail rated. Only 17 and 16" wheels get the trail rating but everything else about the jeep is trail rated. |

Not all '08 Limited come with the premium group II...so you can have a Limited 4x4 with the trail rated badge if you only get the premium group I |

yeah, the only thing that keeps a limited from being trail rated is the 18 inch tire... |

Okay, well, that explains it. I do have the 18" wheels. So what is it about the tires that aren't rated? And does that mean it's less capable off-road? |

Well I don't know about the actual wheel but I know there aren't too many trail rated tires that can go on a 18" wheel. The only snow tire I can find for 18" is the Nokian WR SUV (all-season with the snow flake extreme rating). |

When I ordered mine Saturday I checked with the dealer and he is going to swap out my 18" wheels for the 17". He's also going to see what he can do about getting a badge for the vehicle as with the 17" tires it would now qualify as Trail Rated. It's only a badge though so I won't be too fussed if I can't get one. On the other hand, that is one of the things that separates "us" from "them"! Maybe I should get him to attach the badge with Velcro in case I feel like putting 18" back on at some point! I realize the Premium Group II makes this vehicle a bit on the posh side, but I think Jeep should have made it a little easier to keep the 17" (and thus the Trail Rating). And while I don't know squat about tires, it's surprising that Jeep would have made the tires part of this package knowing it was going to affect the vehicle's Trail Rating worthiness. |

I think they just figure that the most of the people that get the 18's...will never let their jeep see dirt |

You're probably right. Do any of you believe the 18s are still capable on a trail? Is it really that much of a detriment to its off-road worthiness? I mean, with a larger wheel, there's less sidewall (about .6 of an inch), and I suppose less cushion for the wheel. I am thinking about offering a trade with someone with 17s... |

the only other things that came to mind, while flexing, the larger tire will now allow for full articulation, two, the metal that is used for the 18's could be weaker than the 16's and 17's, and three, as you said the cushion ability of the side wall |
