Post subject:  Brake Lights Staying on and flashing while driving

Anyone having this problem too? It started this week, came outside and the brake lights were on but not the third light.. Started the car and hit the brakes a few times and then went and checked they were off. About 2 hours later i went out and they were on again.. Now while driving it to the place that installed the remote start to see if it was something with it they were flashing and flickering and all kinds of stuff. While parked they couldnt get it to do it again. On the way home it was doing it again. I was thinking that is something to do with the trailer wiring or maybe the brake switch is bad so it is going in to the dealer on monday.

someone posted earlier about this earlier and i believe the gremlin for this problem is the wiring harness

ok here is a list of probable causes from what i have found on the nitro forum..

1. brake switch
2. Totally Integrated Power Module
3. trailer wiring

now, to eliminate either 1,2,or 3.... see if you can find the brake switch and disconnect it... if they go off, that is your problem... to rule out number 3, pull the fuse for the trailer lighting circuit (factory towing package). Do the truck brake lights finally extinguish? if so, go check the factory trailer connector at the hitch, see if its corroded causing the parasitic ground. Often the trailer hitch plug is at fault. If the plug is ok unplug the connector to the trailer plug and then reinstall your fuse and see what happens...

and just for sh*ts and giggles, try this out... i stumbled upon this. I don't know if if works but i will give it a shot tomorrow my self

Anyways, If you are having problems(stalling, not starting, check engine light on, one of those gremlins running around..) you can see what the computer is thinking and maybe fix it yourself. That dang gas cap!Oops.

Procedure. Nitro.
1. Enter car, shut door.
2. Put on the emergency brake and tranny in "Park"
3. Hold down trip button.
4. Turn key to "ON" position and let off the trip button.
5. You will get a light show along with dancing gauges!
6. Do not start the car, Once it is done running its system checks the gauge cluster will return to normal and you can be on your way!

This checks that all gauges and lights are functioning normally.
The important thing is to watch the odometer.
It will have codes coming up.
When it shows a code starting with "p" this is your error code.
for example.
P 1281
What does that mean you ask? Well on my Ram it means the engines cold..
To look up your problem code go here.

let me know if it works for you, i will post sticky for every one...

oh and thanks KJ4ME for dropin in :D

ok dropped it off this morning and dealer told me its the brake switch due to the remote start being tired into the brake system they say they cut that wire and didnt have the problem repeat its self and charged me 85 beans to do this. Calling circuit city tomorrow to see if they will reimburse me.
