Post subject:  New Owner MyGIG Question

Greetings all, I am the proud new owner of an 08 Libby Limited. Does anyone out there know if there is a way to copy songs from an ipod to the hard drive via the USB port? If I were to take all the music from my computer and put it on to a USB drive to upload to the mygig, it would take day's to convert all those AAC files to MP3's (Need to burn to CDA, then reimport as MP3).

Well, I dont have a KK, or MyGIG, but I do have a couple iPods an an iPhone and some Macs, so maybe I can help...
I doubt that MyGIG would be able to pull the songs directly off of your iPod. The portion of the iPod's drive that has music on it is not easily accessible. In other words, if you plug into your computer you cant just open up the drive and see all the songs in there in Finder or Windows Explorer. and even if you do get into it with a 3rd party program, the program has to understand how to sort all the files out because the iPod doesnt store them in any kind of order that makes sense. This is to keep people from just copying off the files to share with friends. (piracy)

SO, that being said, it is doubtful that MyGIG would know how do decode all that nonsense. And if your files are AAC, I also doubt that MyGIG plays AAC files. Thats kind of a tough one, because, like you said, you cant just convert AAC to MP3 in iTunes. (again, antipiracy since AAC are protected files and MP3s are not) So, youd have to burn them all to discs and re import.

You might be able to find some 3rd party shareware program or something that would do the conversion for you though. Look around versiontracker.com or something and see what you can see!

Thanks, kinda what I thought. I am a Mac guy too, and was looking at some open source software to remove the DRM (like the Hymn Project), but they all are out of buisness now. I was hoping that if I checked the "write CD text" option in the iTunes burning preferences that it would write the ID tags to the files to be read by the CD player in the Liberty, but that didn't seem to work.
