I was impressed... the guys at Allpar seem to have put together an honest review on the KK. Impressive.

Yup, they are pretty much the most reliable source of information out there these days... Seems to me that all the other magazines are too busy trying to sell subscriptions rather than talk about the a noticable comeback from the american car manufactuers.

Just remember that AllPar only reports on the Chrysler Family of products...so they also might be skewed a bit. I say read them all before you drive one and then figure it out for yourself...you are the only one who truly knows what you need and like...and it is your $$$ afterall!

I thought it was a pretty good, well detailed article. It glossed over a few negative points but considering it has a Chrysler bias I think it was fair and balanced. I wouldn't have wanted it to have been the only article I read before getting my Jeep, but I've seen a lot worse, some of which were on "authoritative" sites.

I'm driving a new Liberty right now because my '07 is in the shop with a radiator leak. So far I'm just neutral on it. Doesn't seem much different from the '07. Same goofy transmission. Feels about the same when driving.

I don't like the hood as much as the old Liberty. I think the old ones had more style. Seats were a little more comforatable. I think it was quieter inside also. Not much different though.

Some strange new things under the hood:
No tranny cooler, no power steering cooler (at least not that I can see).
Battery has fabric wrapped around it.
The air intake to the air filter box is now an enclosed tube wrapped in fabric.

The tranny and power steering coolers were optional equipment that came as part of the towing package on the KJ. I'm sure it's the same on the KK. Your loaner probably doesn't have the towing package.

But... you say it has the same goofy transmission. There's been a good deal of talk about this, with people that have owned both saying that the KK doesn't exhibit that awful torque-converter locked up, can't choose between 2nd & 3rd problem that the KKs have. Can you elaborate more about what you mean by goofy transmission?

The '08 I'm driving seems to act the same as the '07. It's between 3rd and 4th gear that it likes to switch back & forth. Still does it. On my '07 I fix this by deactivating overdrive. On the new ones they have a tow/haul button next to the shifter.

The more recent old-style Libertys all come with power steering and tranny coolers. I have no tow package on mine and have both coolers. I checked the parking lot when I was buying last year and they all had them........unless a manual tranny........then just power steering cooler.

power steering cooler is standard. its that thing that lives in the lower grill. Stick you head down there, you'll see it.

Oh, right about the power steering cooler, my mistake. But I'm pretty sure the tranny cooler is optional equipment as part of the tow package. It's listed as such on my '06 KJ with said package.

There is no 4th gear. There's 3 + OD. I find my KJ can't choose between 2nd & 3rd when climbing hills at about 42mph (you know, 7 over the speed limit). I tried turning off the OD but that did nothing. To make it behave correctly, I have to put it in 2 and let the tach read 2600 until I crest the hill.

That's awesome. I had no idea toyoland existed. Given that I have a KJ and a Tacoma, I'm interested in both of these sites. Thanks!

From what I can gather at the dealerships lot, the tranny cooler is built into the A/C condenser on ALL model KK's.

If they do not have a tranny cooler on all KK's then you all need to add one. That 42rle wont last at all. :?
