The service department at my dealer said that "for warranty purposes, it would be better if I stuck with the factory air filter" anybody have any Idea why she would say this??

Oiled air filters are great for racing, bad for everyday driving. The K&N's can screwup MAF sensors. Many company's have stated in there warrenty manual that "oiled air filters" void all warrenties,I know Ford does.

FRAM has always worked well. At least, recently they have.

Regardless of the warranty, they are bad for your engine as they barely filter the fine particulates that will cause engine wear.

Dealer is mainly saying that to sell you new $$ Mopar filters I'm sure. They would have to prove that the filter caused the damage on a warranty claim and I doubt they would be able to do so.

You would be better off running a dry style air fitler from AEM, Amsoil, Etc. When/IF you can find a drop-in from them.

Get rid of the K&N and get an Amsoil filter. A K&N I had on an 89 5.0 Mustang messed up the MAF system. It took a long time to get the car to run well after that.

One more point, Chrysler replaces their air filters at every oil change. The Amsoil air filter is good for 2+ years. You save money with the Amsoil and you get a little better mileage because the engine can breath better.

The answer is yes... they tend to kill or lower the life of MAF sensors. Most of the problem comes when you got to clean and recharge them. Too much oil and bye bye sensor. I killed one on my first car that way... lesson learned. Will I buy another one.... probably not.

I've had the FIPK since the day I bought my KJ in 03, never had an issue, if the dealer says they will void the waranty because of the filter change dealers, there are laws against that sort of thing.

Oiled filters can mess up the MAF sensors which can affect emissions. Oiled filters are specifically prohibited in some vehicles as specified in the owners manuals.

Ford said that oiled filters would void the warranty if they are used in the Mustang. Not sure about other Ford products. You could put any other type of air filter in your Mustang without voiding the warranty, just not oiled filters.

Not if it stated in the manual. It's clearly stated in Ford manuals and they do enforce it.

HMM well I've personally destroyed a MAF when I recharged my K&N filter. I like their "50% were not broken to begin with" statement.... would a dealership really ship them a working unit?!? I smell something fishy.

I think it's fishy that, SINCE THERE WAS NO EVIDENCE OF THEIR FILTER CAUSING A FAULT IN A PART, that they went through THAT MUCH TROUBLE to prove otherwise.

x2. I messed up the MAF in my 89 Mustang. Ford is not going to risk a lawsuit for no reason.

Ive used K&N filters for a long time and AFIK even the military uses them.... My charger had a high capacity air filter from K&N for two years and not a single issue!
I would highly recommend K&N
but again, dont flame me, its just my experience!

Spent 9 years in the military as a mechanic, both in the Marines and Army, and never once seen a K&N filter on any vehicle, not even the SF uses them.
