| Post subject: | KK Block Heater |
It's not quite that time of the year yet, but around here winter comes quick - and fast! I was just out looking at my Jeep and wondering where the block heater plug is. Looks like it's well back, closer to the passenger side, bundled up with a zip tie. My question is what is the best way to thread this plug out so I can plug it in. I'm used to vehicles where the power cord was much closer to the front of the vehicle and didn't usually have much trouble finding a way to place the plug for use. The KK though seems like it will need a little more careful locating so it doesn't get caught in a belt. For those with block heaters, how/where did you run the cord, and where did it come out on the front of the vehicle. I'd like it as unobtrusive as possible and ideally somewhere where it's not going to rub the paint up as I drive. Obviously pictures are worth a thousand words or more! Thanks! |

I haven't inspected mine closely yet, but it seems like the chord is plenty long to run to the passenger fender and then along to the front grill area... away from moving objects. But I'm sure some well place zip ties would be fine if you have to do a direct shot past the belt and pulleys. After that, I haven't decided how I'm going to get the plug on the exterior of the grill yet. Probably come out near the tow hooks. |

Just wondered if anyone has had the need to get out the block heater plug yet. Where/how did you feed it through? It's certainly getting chilly here and it might not be longer before I'm needing to plug in. |

Well, it's hard to describe, but I basically zip-tied it to hoses in the vicinity of the original "bundle", then poked it through what seems to be a thin piece of channel on the passenger side , near the bottom, next to the large radiator hose. Then I poked it through to the area of my power steering radiator and tied it off to my tow hook with another zip-tie. I still allows me to use the tow hook. Hope that helps. |

Still looking for pics? I did mine last weekend, works great. Needle starts to move within seconds of starting it, and it's been zero to 5* here past few nights. |

Sure, please post any pics you have - a picture is worth a thousand words. So far I've been lazy/lucky and I haven't had to plug it in., although a couple mornings I think I maybe should have. I've started up the Liberty and for a quick second it makes a sound best compared to the sound of those toy cars with the flywheels/rip cords when you pulled the rip cord. I'm not sure what I'm hearing but it can't be all that good I'm sure. Obviously leaving it for 12+ hours even in my attached garage is insufficient in these temps (-17F as I type this). |
