Anybody remove that resnonator at the end of the exhaust system? is it a resonator? I want replace it with a pipe and exhaust tip. Thought it might be a cheap cool mod. does anyone think it would be louder or better performance?

Not that I'm aware of. I think somebody on here replaced the first muffler with an aftermarket one, and left the rear resonator on. Said it was still pretty quiet and might remove the resonator too.

In the next few weeks I plan on putting a Magnaflow muffler in place of the stocker, and leaving the resonator on. Then removing the resonator if I want it a bit louder.

Digger how do you like the sound? is it throaty or does it sound like a rice rocket? Also what are the dimensions of the exhaust on the KK? 2-1/4 ? What outlets did you order on the muffler center center/ center offset? Thanks for the info in advance.

I got a super 44 and removed the resonater it sounds nice and deep, as far as a v6 goes. Your best bet is to get a 2.5 with center and right offset like digger said for a tip an 18inch is also your best bet. My friend installed an offset offset magnaflow it also sounds good but lost some when he had to make the bend to adapt to the wrong offset. Ive listened to alot of mufflers on the 3.7 and for the money the super 44 or super 40 are the best sounding. But anyway the resonator removed with an 18inch tip should sound ok and would but it at just about the perfect spot.

What if I were to increase the outlet? Would that open the sound range a little?
2.5 in to something around the 3-4" range...

I kinda want to do a split on this, but I am going to have to go the full dual exhaust if I do.
Has anyone tinkered with that on the KJ or KK? It has to be possible.

the bigger the outlet the less volume your gonna get. A 3 or 3.5 would be good if you here gonna use duals but the kk has that stupid spare tire so thats just a waist of time if you dont know how to bend pipe and you dont have the right tools. Youll pay a fortune its normally about 120 130 if you buy a muffler and a tip around here but to do a full on y pipe split the fab a ton pipes your talkin 5 6 hundred its just not worth it you could wait till a kit comes out and pay the same but its more worth your while getting a full catback anyway.

you can buy dual kits for the nitro that will work on the 08 09 kk.

IDK about the resonator, there is a bracket welded to the back of it, so in tell i figure out how to replace it, we will have to wait

Im pretty sure you can get a dual kit, you might have to go to a shop to get a few custom parts but, you can buy headers for the 3.7 and all the rest, could be easily custom fabbed at your local muffler shop.

I went to three different shops they all said they wouldent even try to do a dual because of the labor time and where the tire is mounted. As far as headers go then your getting into the engines lifetime warranty

Why would a shop not want to do something because of labour time? thats how shops make money. As far as the spare tire, if its not in the way of the current exhaust why would it be in the way of a dual exhaust? if it can go around it on one side it can go around on the other side. I have seen a dodge nitro with a custom dual exhaust in the town I live in. So I know it can be done. As well, a true custom dual exhaust costs upwards of $1000 or more. Also Im pretty certain that adding headers wont bother your "lifetime warranty" unless it is stated in your owners manual.

Not legal in most (all?) of the states. I don't believe you can replace a single catalytic converter with 2 for true duels. Best you can do is headers, to a single approved cat, then split back to dual tails. I'll check the Catco book at work tomorrow if I remember.

Sorry, alot of Canada has little to no emissions control or testing, mostly just the major citys have it. I know people up here that run straight pipes.

No worries, some of the states don't have actual emissions testing, but they might still do visual check for all emissions devices. Here in Illinois, anything older then 1995 (OBD1) is no longer tested at all.
