gonna ride my lib out without a lift for the next year until I can save up enough dough. I want to slap some new tires and wheels on it though.

currently have 225/75/16

So far, I found a nice set of wheels (398 MANX) 16x8 with an offset of 0. ... (5x114.3 (5x4.5)

The tires that I want are 245/70/16 Generals.

I am getting conflicting opinions from the people at the wheel website vs the tire. The wheel site customer service is telling me that with 245/70/16 the 16x8 wheels with an offset of 0 will fit fine and if anything I'll even stick out slightly, as that is the offset (o).

The tire reps are saying that I will be rubbing against suspension parts.

I want to be sure about this before I pull the trigger, here is the link to the wheels: http://www.vtecrims.com/vision-398-manx ... bolts-16-8

if anyone has any suggestions for offsets/backspacing and could maybe even list for me the steps I should be taking to get a nice set of tires/wheels
that would be great!

An 8" wheel is a bit wide for that tire, a 7" wheel would work a lot better.

lets just say then, for the sake of argument... if I decided to get a lift and go with 255/70/16... would the 16x8 still be wide or would
I be fine?

VERY easy way to look at tires and wheels
8 inch wide wheel is really too wide for anything that we can run on a lifted KJ/KK even
Don't need that wide , 265-70-16s for example are just around 8 inch tread width so just work
255-70s can be but still 7 inches works better
IF you are staying stock then you'll need to stay with stock wheel sizes, 7 inches wide and 5 inches of backspacing unless you want rubbing or stay with stock tires
8 inch wide wheel and even 255-70-16s on unlifted will rub
So if not lifted yet I would also hold off on new wheels

Now before some come on and start with the " well Rubicons came with 245-75-16s and 8 inch wheels "
yes they did BUT the reason they did was they wanted to advertise 8 inch wheels and 30 inch tires, the only tire they could get was a 245-75-16 MTR ( for the look they were going for )

OK, assuming i get the OME 1.5 lift (which is really 2.5 according to everyone) and i decide to go with 255/70/16, slapping 16x7 wheels on those tires will work. My other question is do I need to stay within the same offset/backspacing parameters that are true with stock suspension even if I get a lift? thx tom been a real help.

Yes lifted , well using 927/948 OME springs they do give you 2.5 inches of lift
Now onto wheels and tires, 255-70-16s will work great on a 7 inch wide wheel
Use 4 inches of backspacing and it will sit the tire and wheel out to the edge of the flares, will look great and work really well if you go off road etc.
Also the 255-70-16 will not be too noticeable as far as mileage and power goes

A 7" wide wheel works fine for me with 265/75/16's
