| Post subject: | 6000 mile service |
In a couple of months I will have about 6000 on my KK. The Jeep dealership has a 6000 service schedule.....I'd like to know what you all think about it: Oil and filter change Lube (as needed) Top off fluids Install MOC Oil Conditioner Inspect belts and hoses Check tire pressure Under vehicle inspection Rotate and balance tires Inspect and clean air filter (as needed) Inspect, clean and adjust front and rear brakes Lube door and hood hinges Adjust belts(as needed) Adjust parking brake(as needed) Clean throttle chamber Service battery terminals and ends Inspect and replace wiper blades(as needed) Inspect exterior light operation. Install MOC fuel treatment Cost: $170.00 Thanks for any input. |

personally I would have the oil changed and the tires rotated and call it a day. I think all the other stuff for $170 is a waste of money. |

Is that the service schedule to keep up with the warranty? |

All it says is it's based on "factory schedules". Don't know if it's warranty related....maybe someone else knows????? |

I think the only service you are required to have is the drive train warranty inspections if you have the limited lifetime drivetrain warranty... Is that transferrable with the jeep or only to the original owner? I bought my KK used and it was only 6/mo 4600 miles into the warranty when I bought it.... hmmm - call to Chrysler is in order. |

Just get the oil changed and tires rotated. You could do ALL that other stuff yourself, if you feel the need to. Paul |

You could do ALL that other stuff yourself, if you feel the need to. Paul I agree 1000%.........you will only have 6,000 miles on it at the time of the service and half of that stuff is bs. oil/filter......shouldn't be more than $25-30. Rotating the tires about $20......and have them check the air in the tires while they are doing it.......no more than $50. total.........lets see, they wanted $170 less the $50, so you just saved $120..................lets see now, what mod can you get for $120???? hahaha Besides, all that other stuff you can do yourself and it easier than baking an apple pie.... |

What is MOC oil conditioner and MOC fuel treatment? Is that necessary in a new Jeep? |

Erm.. I'm coming up on my 8000 mile mark, and I didn't even know they had such a thing. I've just been doing the regular oil change and tire rotation (and fluid checks to make sure I'm not running low on anything). |

I rotate the tires at every oil change....just so I remember to do it. Dealer does my oil changes for free, and throws in the rotation for $10. I've bought 12 vehicles from him over the years. He owes ME Paul |

Well, I decided to go ahead and get the 6000 mile service anyways....after they took off the oil change and tire rotation I had done previously, plus a 10% discount coupon, I ended up paying $85. Maybe you guys think that's too much, but for a women, it's peace of mind for me. Plus I'm leaving on Tuesday for Georgia and it was all stuff I felt comfortable having checked out. I'm happy |

I'm happy There's always the option of learning to do the work yourself - most of that stuff isn't difficult. The money you save is an incentive - but the satisfaction of working on your own vehicle is more so. From one female to another... But for $85 and your own peace of mind, I guess it's a good deal. Thanks for responding! I actually do some of my own stuff, but this time I decided to go this route. Brakes I've never done myself.....guess I could learn. As I get older, I guess the less motivated I am to do the stuff myself |

the brakes are easy as pie, all you need is 1/2 or 9/16 socket( can't remember) and a skinny faced 14mm or 15 mm wrench |
