I am looking at

BGF 245/45R16 or 265/70R16 both about 30.7"

OR if I can go bigger.....

265/75R16 or 235/85R16 both about 31.7"

I am not sure what kind of lift is need for the 31.7" or what if any spacers are needed to fit 265's

So I read somewhere else that some one did with a 2" spacer lift put on tire 265/75R16. This tire will give the lift an added 1" and this is 1" axle clearance that can only come from larger tires! Thoughts...

thoughts....265-75-16s sounds like time to fiqure in the cost of regearing as well. Those will kill some of your mileage

They sure do. They also take some of your power. There was a big change when I put the 4.10's in. Another thing is your flairs. My tires will eventually rip off my flairs. Even if I take the spacers off they still stick out to far. My next set will be a little smaller. Either that or figure out a way to take the flairs off and still have it look good.

Are you stating they are too wide? or too big in diameter? A 235/85R16 is the same diameter as the 265/75R16 but not as wide.

I know the best all round tire is the 245/75R16 (for stock or a 2" lift) but i bigger diameter tire means more clearance and the only way to get more clearance under your gear box.

I've been looking for rims and tires for my libby as well. I've found some info on the Mopar 2008 Jeep Liberty Liberator II. Basicly its their test/play toy. But the info they posted was that this was running 17x7.5" custom rims and BFG LT285/70/17 33" tires. They stated on the info sheet for the lift they used a Superlift 2" spacer lift kit. Here's some pics and the final version they took to SEMA. On the first set you can see how they cut the front bumper which i prefer over the factory design <yes i hate the low clearance on approach>

Heres the final version.

Hope this gives a few people some idea's of what can be done with the KK. Also to note they did state that on the first test vehicle Liberator II they did add a custom skid plate to protect the radiators. That said as soon as i get a skid plate fabricated for the front I'm chopping my bumper.[/img]

what I have found out so far is that a 30.5" (245/75r16) is okay for stock. I have seen 31s compressed and it very snug don't think much more will fit without mod of fenders/flares. A 235/85r16 is 31.5" is 31.7" and seen it on a 4" lift not sure how it will fit or if it could on a 2.5" lift. this is what I ant to try. any other thoughts?

245-75-16 is what I would do good all around size without doing too much other trimming or losing power, fuel mileage

The Liberator II with 2 inch spacer lift and running 33 inch tire   thats BS, so what all else did they do besides that? Gears for sure or it would be a dog! and has to me more lift either that or they enlarged the fenderwells like they did on the original Liberator

245/75r16 are mostly used as far as I can see but thought maybe a 2.5" lift with taller tires like the 235/85r16 would be better. With the 245/75r16 you don't need a lift, but I would and will get one but still the 2.5" or 4" with those tires?

X2

You will see a decrease in power even with 245/75's,not as much if you get "P" rated tires but what the point then?Regearing is highly recommended for 265/75's,I can see it after you lift and put 265/75's on you'll be moaning about dropping about 5-10mpg's and have no power like it used to.Regearing is not cheap either, looking at about $1000-$1500 for the gear change alone, then you might as well throw in lockers and save some money on labor if later you want lockers,do it all at once and pay the labor once.

If you look at the pics of the LibertaorII you will see the fender flares have been altered, basically they cut all the material out besides the outside face to make room for the tires. You willing to do alot of cutting to fit even 265/75's?You will need some major trimming, even if you never leave the mall parking lot.

is there any advantage using 17'' rims over 16'' 285/75 16 and 285/70 17 are basically the same size

Slightly more steering response, due to less sidewall flex.

Downside, less sidewall flex while off-road...

Life's a compromise!

ok so with my jeep sitting like this,
Image

this is what i have

with a 225/75r16, 2.5 in the front from the tire tread to the lower splash guard rivet or 17.5 and 18 from the hub and 3.25 in the rear from the tire tread to to splash guard andd in the rear, 2.75 and 4.0 from tire to well or 17.5 and 18.25 from hub to well. I will have to go back to work at some time to measure at full compression, but it looks like a 235/85r16 which is a 31.75 or 265/75r16/31.65 will fit with the 4 inch lift with out cutting
