Not sure about that, I wished we could turn off the auto lock in drive...hate that function. Get out, go to back to open gate, and of course, it freakin locked. I figure dealer could reflash my computer to change it.

If you have a KK, you can easily change this setting yourself. If you have the EVIC, the setting is there. If you don't, you can do this:

1. Close all doors and place the key in the ignition.
2. Cycle the ignition switch between LOCK and ON and
then back to LOCK 4 times ending up in the LOCK
position.
3. Depress the power door lock switch to lock the doors.
4. A single chime will indicate the completion of the
programming.
5. Repeat these steps if you want to return this feature to
its previous setting.

(From page 32 of the manual).

It isn't possible to program the doors to automatically lock after a certain amount of time. Would hate to have it lock my keys inside it somehow!! :-)

Read the owners manual and it will tell you how to fix that.

Not going to happen, good habit to get into is always lock the doors(hit the lock button) as you are getting out,I do this and I also hit the lock button on my key fob as I'm walking away just in case.

And here I thought I was just being overly paranoid by doing that. Makes me feel much better knowing I'm not alone :)

There are several aftermarket alarm systems that will do this for you. I had one a few vehicles back by VIPER that would lock automatically. Like previously mentioned though, easy to lock the keys in...though it never happened to me (I didn't have that feature turned on - no auto locks in vehicle) I did have it set to activate the system and I set it off many times when I forgot to deactivate before opening the door.

Its a great habbit with a key FOB. I always click my lock when I am walking away anytime I leave my Jeep. Just a habbit that I think everyone should do haha. You never have to really worry unless then someone really wants something.

Well I was stationed in SoCal for 3 years and learned fast, before that I never locked my vehicles, let alone removed the keys from the ignition but that was in South Dakota.

Is there anyway to have the doors unlock when the Jeep is put in park? I get really annoyed that I have to go hit the unlock every time.

Might check the owners manual, I'm pretty sure that the KJ's had an option to unlock all doors when the drivers door is opened (although it may have been programmable only with an EVIC or by the dealer). I'll check my manual and report back this afternoon.

Thanks for info, haven't read the manual...wife always has libby out running somewhere, just a trick to have enough time to get it washed for her. She ended up locking her keys in it yesterday at work...told her not to leave key in ignition al the time, it was going to get her one day.
Can a blank non key fob key be made to use to just unlock doors? We always keep and extra hidden up under bumper in emergencies

Automatic Unlock Doors on Exit
The doors will unlock automatically on vehicles with

1. The Automatic Unlock Doors On Exit feature is enabled.
2. The transmission was in gear and the vehicle speed
returned to 0 mph (0 km/h).
3. The transmission is in “N” (Neutral) or “P” (Park)
4. The driver door is opened.
5. The doors were not previously unlocked.
6. The vehicle speed is 0 mph (0 km/h).

Automatic Unlock Doors on Exit Programming
The Automatic Unlock Doors On Exit feature can be
enabled or disabled as follows:
² For vehicles equipped with the Electronic Vehicle
Information Center (EVIC), refer to “Personal Settings
(Customer Programmable Features)” under “Electronic
Vehicle Information Center (EVIC)” in Section 4
of this manual for details.
² For vehicles not equipped with the EVIC, performing
the following procedure:
1. Close all doors and place the key in the ignition.
2. Cycle the ignition switch between LOCK and ON and
then back to LOCK 4 times ending up in the LOCK
position.
3. Depress the power door unlock switch to unlock the
doors.
4. A single chime will indicate the completion of the
programming.
5. Repeat these steps if you want to return this feature to
its previous setting.
