| Post subject: | Skyslider . . . give your report |
When I bought my Jeep in August, I delayed my final decision for a week while I went back and forth between a jeep with a sunroof, or a jeep with the skyslider. I finally ended up with the skyslider, and opted for the lifetime bumper to bumper warranty for some peace of mind. My concerns with the skyslider were two-fold . . . roof rack options (limited as of right now) and longevity (TBD). So here is my report, 5 months later, and three seasons since I bought the Jeep in the summer. I am really curious to hear from fellow skyslider owners what they think about the skyslider experience. PROS: Summer time, period. I had this thing open 95% of the time I was driving in the summer. It is refreshing, it is a head turner, everyone who gets in my car loves it, and I have always been a sunroof addict, so this is a natural progression. CONS: NOISE . . . and getting worse. Highway speeds this thing sounds like a soft-top wrangler. Is anyone else having this problem? I have an appointment on Friday at the dealer to have a part replaced that will allegedly help the situation. The noise was tolerable when I first got the Jeep, but has become more of a roar that is pretty annoying and loud. I love what the skyslider offers, I now have all summer and spring to take advantage of the skyslider, then when winter comes, I can look forward to 4WD fun in the snow. It makes me love this Jeep year round. And I must say, I LOVE the Liberty. Also, it seems to me that all Jeep would have to do would be to make an aftermarket part that would act as a vent visor at the lip of the skyslider. I would think this would solve the problem. So lets hear some thoughts . . . what is your experience? Possible solutions? Noise level? |

Now have 8700 mile on my Liberty. Live in snow country, so had to wash it to get the salt off the Jeep. Leaked in a few places when I took it through the car wash......front corners approx. 5 inches in diameter.....half way across the bar above the rear seats, which is still wet. Am I supposed to have it hand washed throughout the winter....THINK NOT!!!!!! Now the white headliner is all water stained!!! Not happy at all.....thinking LEMON LAW!!!!!!!!! Plus like I said...as time has gone on , skyslider has gotten much louder. |

I love mine. 20K on my Jeep and no water leaks from the SkySlider. It does seem noisier at times but not anymore than a convertible. |

You know what...I wish you guys luck with those. I considered getting it on mine...but then I thought about it and decided that since I live in Rochester, NY it probably wasn't worth it. I had a sun-roof on my last vehicle and probably used it 4 times in 5 years. Plus, if my roof does leak, I wanted the satisfaction of being able to say that there is no excuse for it because there are not supposed to be any holes in my roof. Another thing that scares me is vandalism. I don't know why, because if someone wanted to damage a vehicle they could just pop the tires or smash any part of it...but all I can picture is some clown with a pocket knife cutting the skyslider for kicks. But, if I lived in a warmer town, it would have been a really cool feature. |

I only got the Sky Slider option because I had a real employee discount when I purchased it. Otherwise, I would have just got a normal roof. Nobody should be complaining about the fact that it leaks in a high pressure car wash, Jeep even tells you not to use them. That's lack of buyer research. I live in Chicago area, and I manually wash my Jeep when it's in the 20's outside. Just don't pull the trigger on the nozzle when near the top, and you only get low pressure water spray. The noise is a different story, however Jeep acknowledged the issue and created a TSB to fix it. Parts for the repair must be ordered, and there is a wait with no ETA... Mine was ordered 2 weeks ago. |

I love how certain members feel the need to come and poop on the thread without owning a skyslider. This is not a convertible, and I never said I expected it to be silent . . . I was simply looking to hear from fellow skyslider owners. Very simple. I appreciate you fellow owners giving your reports. I too ordered the TSB part . . . I am taking it in on Friday. It only took about 10 days for the part to get in. I read on another forum that the people who have had the newer TSB done are very pleased with the results. |

There is a big difference between stating the facts for the benefit of those asking questions . . . and stating the obvious for the sake of being on a thread. |

things need to chill here!!! Having said that: I also kinda think that the skyslider is kinda different from a convertible... not the material its made from but the structure and everything else... I have taken my libby to several carwashes including LASERWASH to test how it would perform there Im happy to say that no leaking in my libby!!! |

I bought my KK back in May here in the greater Seattle area; almost 8,000 miles on it now. I loved the skyslider during the Spring, Summer, and early Fall: I had it open any decent day we had. It's been closed for a while now due to cold and even snowy weather. The noise has never bothered me: never owned a rag top before, so nothing to compare it to. I find it quieter when open than my wife's car with her sunroof open. I have hand washed my baby since I bought it: no carwashes for me. |

I also really love our skyslider... and can't complain ONE bit. Well, I could actually - two small issues first, was that I experienced a little wind noise the other day - but on the exact same road yesterday, no noise. Must've just been a REALLY windy day earlier (also alot colder too... pressure differences?) second, on a road trip to Vancouver Island from Calgary - my sister (in the back seat) got a sunburn on her legs. LOVE THE SKYSLIDER. I was skeptical before I bought the vehicle - but when we went to see it again, and test drive - i asked specifically for a skyslider, i wanted to see how it worked and all that. checked it out, it seems to fit nice and tight... "hmm... interesting" i thought. Then I hit the button. I had a look on my face akin to a 14 year old seeing his first playboy! I was sold as soon as the roof was 6" open. |

A little update on my end . . . I had the TSB performed that replaces the front cross-member on the skyslider. The noise situation is WAY better. I tried to ask the tech details on what makes the new cross member different, or if the old one was damaged, but he said he didn't notice because he was just following the instructions of the TSB. I also noticed that the noise increases significantly with each click of the fan when I am using my heat. This is annoying, but usually after twenty minutes or so when my car is warmed up, I can turn it down to '1' and it barely makes noise. So while the roof is never going to be silent on the HWY, it is definitely tolerable after I got the TSB taken care of. Below 65 MPH there is virtually no noise, above 65 it is tolerable and seems to vary based on wind conditions, above 80 it is predictably noisy but that is to be expected. And yes, I still love my skyslider. Now if someone can get me a roof rack that will work, everything will be complete. BTW, I still believe that a simple air dam would take away ALL noise. Someone needs to manufacture one. |
