Where do we see an increase in clearance with a lift?

Post subject:  Where do we see an increase in clearance with a lift?

Hey guys,

Obviously, I've mentioned that I want to get a 2.5 lift from JBA, but I'm hoping for some info. The KK is listed at 7.7" of ground clearance, and I'm guessing the low point is the rear differential. If not, where is the low point?

Without an increase in tire size, where will we see a increase in ground clearance with a 2.5 inch lift? At the running boards? Where else?

Basically, I'm looking at getting 30.6" tires, which is 1.6" larger than stock. If that is the case, I'm looking at a grand total of .8" of actual increase to the lowest point? That brings us to 8.5" overall, which still sucks.

Even with 31.7" tires, I'd get an overall total of 9.05"....but I don't really think I want to go that large and have to screw around with the loss of power and having to switch the speedo.

Thoughts and input please?

The whole point of lifting is to add larger tires is which gives you the added ground clearance. Now with IFS you will see some added clearance even with stock tires but your overall ground clearance will not increase due to the lowest point being the rear diff unless you add larger tires.

You may not think 3/4" is a whole lot but every little bit helps.Out here in CO and playing on the rocks I do not hit on obsticals with my 265/75's where other with the same lift amount and only 245/75's are hitting like crazy. That extra 1/2" makes a world of difference.

Unclejjg, have you decided what you're going to do and have you ordered your lift yet?

Yes, I've decided on the 2.5" JBA lift and I'm going to order the A-arms and break lines as well. I'm waiting on a friend's schedule, but I've been thinking that I'll order ahead of time.

Then, I'm going to get a set of AT tires...30.7" to start. I think I'll have the tire shop try a few sizes so I can see what fills the wheel wells the best without any rubbing whatsoever....I'm pretty sure I'll go with the 30.7" 245/70/17r Firestone Destination tires though.

I want to do both upgrades at once, and I hope to have it completed by March....just in time for Spring!

I think the next project after that will be an ARB locker...but that is not for a while.

Will the ones sold by JBA work?

I couldn't tell you..I pieced it all together my self as the 4 inch kit is still a proto type. I did order from the same place thought.

Most of what you gain will be in getting the front skid plate up, once the skid plate is at or above the rear dif height, your rear dif becomes your low point.
