Post subject:  Daystar and Revtek lifts: What the installers are saying

Before you read this thread . . . PLEASE PLEASE do not come on here and poop on spacer kits, we all know the pros/cons.

I called ok4wd today. a huge place here in Jersey that works alot on Jeeps and other 4wd vehicles. I asked about spacer lifts. A few things from the techs there . . .

1.) They said they had nothing bad to say about Daystar or Revtek systems, both make a good product.

2.) The Daystar spacers required grinding down, since installers found them to be a bit too big.

3.) They said to expect to 'battle ball joints' for the life of the vehicle.

4.) The best lift for Liberty's that they have worked with is the OME lifts. He said that is hands down the best they have worked with, but there are none available for the KK (obviously I was well aware of this thanks to my addiction to this forum).

5.) $454 Labor to install either Revtek or Daystar lift. No need in their opinion to extend brake lines, and the price includes alignment.

So my thinking is this . . .

If I go with an econo lift, it sounds to me that the JBA Upper A-arms are essential. ($395)

I would probably go with the Daystar or Revtek (they also install the RK kit ($150-300)

Labor costs . . . since I will probably not do this myself ($454)

So I am looking at $1000 at least for a spacer lift. Have I missed anything? Does anyone have anything to add?

Or you could do it the red neck way get a few buddies together buy the jba lift and a case of blue ribbon bottles cause you gotta be high class and try to throw it in yourself.

Digger you think this will solve the ball joint issue? Is the ball joint issue unique to spacer lifts or all lifted libs?

Hey now...that sounds kinda like the way I'm planning on....(checks mirror for shades of red).

Actually, it will be more like my buddy (car mechanic) putting it together and me holding a wrench or two, but I think it qualifies.

Well there are two different views... One being you don't need them IF you talk to tommud, but by using the JBA arms, you then correct the angle of the ball joint to bring it back to a factory angle

is there more down travle possible with jba arms (more spring clearence). At full drop my stock arms are very close to the springs and I dont even have a lift

Yes, correcting the angle of the ball joint, increased strut spring clearance, and have a serviceable ball joint that cost less than 30 bucks instead of $115 + labor for a new control arm

Can't speak for the KK, but my KJ has had no camber issues w/o JBA arms, and at full droop, there is no contact.

Juts sayin'

OK now that I have been pulled into this   ON KJs you do not have to and many have ran with the stock arms for a lot of miles, I changed out mine with 70,000 on the lift , arms are still good yet.
BUT with the arms it is somewhat easier to align, seems to have somewaht more drop without hitting etc.
If you have the money by all means go with the arms, it is an upgrade, but if you are tight on cash at the time they can wait

my 2 cents
