I've been contacting a variety of companies who provide aftermarket products for the Liberty KJ to see what their plans are for the Liberty KK. Detours USA, makers of the unique Backbone Bumper System for mounting a winch to a structural frame behind the OEM bumper skin responded with the below (sorry for the long email chain):

>Image

Thus, Detours is saying they've already made their Backbone Bumper System for the KK, but don't have any photos of full installs, much less with a winch mounted to it and the OEM bumper skin reinstalled. This raises a couple questions:
[list]1. Any of you that live in Texas see one of the ones referenced that the TX USFS purchased and presumably installed? Is it worth calling around and/or visiting your local TX USFS public lands to ask around and see where they went so we could all see a photo?

If we could get some validation and verification, and Detours updated their website, then we could update our KK aftermarket parts/suppliers on-going list.

Just spreading the word and trying help all us KKers out....

Nice. I considered this as an option when I got my winch but I figured I would swap to a full bumper down the road anyway so might as well keep my money

I also just noticed that the front cross member is color matched to the KK

Our current system works up to 2008 models, the only changes are in
the recovery area for different model years thru '08.

Happy New Year!

Hey man, that winch looks great. Could you give us some detailed instructions about how you mounted it/where to what. Pics would be even better. Looking to do this myself but this is my first time customizing a KK which is much more difficult than a KJ.

Thanks man,

Just wanted to throw this out there. While I haven't had to use it yet, I'm 100% confident that it will perform beyond my expectations. I'm also 100% satisfied with the product. Detours does amazing work. You should feel confident to drop your KK off and let them come up with some goodies. I would but I'm too far away and mine is a daily driver. Oh, and if you're concidering making a steel bumper, the back one is probably the best option for a starting point. This thing is probably stronger than what it's mounted to. It's also 5/16" thick.
That's my blue KK above.

Take a look at using a backbone as your starting point. Why reinvent the wheel, the hard part has been done, all that's left is the pretty part. If I put a bumper on, that's what my plan is.

Well folks, I've been bragging up Detours and Mark's fabrication genius and now I have proof. I'll load pics soon. Today I nailed a Ford Escape in a parking lot. They came out of nowhere cutting across parking spaces. I guess the timing just sucked because almost as soon as I started moving forward they were there. I pushed my brand new winch about six inches into their passenger door and I only have some scratches and a little damaged plastic. Gotta love those crumple zones. :5SHOTS:
