A guy on another forum lifted his Patriot 4" + tires. You know, I understand the benefit of solid axle vs. independent suspension, but it is pretty hard to pass up more than 12" of ground clearance (like, true ground clearance at the lowest point). I'm curious to see if his wheels fall off.

I've got to say though...it really does a lot for that vehicle. The pics can be seen at http://www.jeeppatriot.com/forum/showthread.php?t=12447 or below:

Apparently, this kid used the RR 2" lift and his father has a custom auto shop so they tinkered with it and added a couple inches. Nice to see what it would look like, but if you follow the link most poster already are afraid they are noticing degradation from the RR lift...let alone another 2".

You don't measure ground clearance at the bottom of the doors like they are,it's from the lowest point under the vehicle. He got no lift on that thing, maybe the 2" lift but I doubt it from looking at the pics.

Thats not the way you measure lift... You measure from the center of the hub to the fender...most of that ground clearance comes from his larger tires... it's not 4 inches of lift

I am kinda curious about the RRO camber bolts thought...

Guys...there is no axle under a Patriot, and no transfer case....nothing is hanging down. Look at one up close. Further, it is fully independent so unlike the Liberty (where a 2" lift doesn't lift the rear axle at all....thus only tires do), the Patriot actually sees the benefit of the 2" lift itself + the tires. On that vehicle, the bottom of the doors are pretty close the the lowest point with exception of the suspension arms in the front.

In the pic you can see that he has 12" plus the height of the tape measure box showing from the door. There is part of the Jeep visible that is hanging down a bit further toward the middle....so lets say he has about 12".

Also, as a side note, you have to figure in that he has the FD1 version so it starts at 8".

Here is a pic of the same vehicle when it had 2" lift and new tires next to a Commander:

I'd love to see Digger's rig pull up with new tires and his 4" lift. That would put them both to shame!

That commander has smaller then stock tires on it and looks to be lowered. You should look under a Patriot, there's plenty hanging down to get snagged on.I actually went and measured a Patriot's ground clearance at a Jeep dealership(they looked at me kinda funny),out of the 10 they had there none ever measured past 7" of true ground clearance, and that one wasn't even 4wd(go figure).Nothing against the Patriot but Jeep over states it's ground clearance by alot.

It seems we're all missing the point here. No matter how much lift you give the patriot it still is a gutless turd with a boring transmission.

Funny you mention that, the first Jeep dealer I went to when I started shopping last year talked me out of even taking a Patriot for a test drive. I told him I'm a car guy, and there has to be something 'fun' about any car I own... sort of fast, manual trans, off road ability, good handling etc. He look at me and said "the Patriot doesn't do any of of those, get a Liberty"

I couldn't imagine driving a car with a constantly variable transmission... That's got to be boring. At the very least, if it's an automatic, it MUST be a floor shifter and I'd add a shift kit ASAP.

I went to the Jeep dealer planning on buying a patriot. When I drove it, I knew within a quarter mile it was not for me . . . and the rest as the say is history.

The CVT was a nightmare, the thing had absolutely no zip, no manual trans, too low to the ground, to small inside, and overall a very 'cheap' feel. I drove the liberty and never thought about the patriot again.

Agreed on most accounts...although I will say that there is a notable improvement on the 2009 in terms of sound dampening and overall feel than the previous two model years.

I also was considering this vehicle and opted for the Liberty as soon as I drove one.

I think it looks pretty good and I hope he takes it off road within it's abilities and enjoys it. It does look like there is a lot of ground clearance under there especially with no rear diff.

I like the Patriot body styling anyway, but prefer the drivetrain of the KJ. I guess I am a RWD/4x4 with a 4lo t-case kind of guy, but I would buy a 4x4 Pat for a DD as long as I had another Jeep.
