Post subject:  Wheel/Tire question ... UPDATE

I ended up getting a 16x8 +25 w/ 255/70-16

that is 5.5 bs. your wheels will stick out 1'' more than stock. I think you will be fine with 245 70/16 but 8'' wide rim is too much for a 235 70/16 tire

the 235/70-16 can take 6-8" wheel.8"is max.

You should be fine with a 245/70/16 on those rims. I have a 255 tire on 8" wide rim with a 1/2" less backspacing (they stick out 1/2" more then those rims you're looking at would) and I rubbed at 3/4 lock or more.

Post subject:  UPDATE

Well I just ordered my wheels and tires. I went with a 16x8 +25 rim and a 255/70-16

The wheels I got are the MB Predator

and some Yokohama Geolandar A/T tires

They should be in and on next week ... I'll post pics as soon as I get them on!

If the KK is ANYTHING like the KJ (and it is) you will rub on the front swaybar and the inside of the fenderwells when turned

I was thinking that with the 255 I might rub but then also remember that the wheels are a +25 offest which could even out the wider tire ... I guess we will have to wait and see. They should be in and installed by mid next week.

If your tires a wider your going to have more problems with the front air dam.

Any input on the 255/70 tire ... Any think I'll have rubbing issues?

How does that +25 relate to inches of back spacing? Gonna be a tight fit!

Yeah, I have the same question as you Mr. Nick.

Mike08, what backspace are the rims you've selected and how do you know they'll work? Inquiring minds want to know.....

Thank you.

8) From the information I can find it appears as though you are going to be moving your rim only a 1/4" outside of the finderwell. With that size tire with no lift I believe you are going to have some rubbing issues up front, mostlikely on turns and up top if you hit a speed-bump too fast. I had a set of 33" tires on mine with a 2" lift and the tires were facing straight. I could tell that there would be no movement on those tires without some major rubbing front and rear of the front tires. And that was on a rim with 4-3/4" BS.

The backspacing (offset) on the wheels is +25

Stock is +40 = 1.57"
New is +25 = .98"

This can explain it better then I can
http://www.tirerack.com/wheels/tech/tec ... techid=101

Here is where I figured out if it would fit or not

Stock my overall tire height is 29.1" and width is 9.25", 235/60-18

My new tires will have a height of 30.05" and a width of 10.03", 255/70-16

With the height one thing you need to remember is that the extra 1" is actually 1/2" when you look at if it will rub on the fender wells. It's only 1/2" because you will be adding 1/2" to the top and 1/2" to the bottom. It's overall 1". Most people will go out to their car and measure 1" from the top which is wrong. It's 1/2" on top and 1/2" on the bottom.

Same goes for the width. I'm actually adding about .40" to one side and .40" to the other.

I'm pushing the wheel out .60" with the offset then adding .80" of tire width. So I'm actually only adding .10" of width to each side over stock.

After all the confusing numbers ( ) this setup in theory should fit ... we'll see once they come in and get put on the car.

Not to throw up too many more numbers but here is something else

The section height of my stock tire (outside of rim to the top of the tire) is 5.55" on an 18" rim
The section hight of my new tire is 7.02" on a 16" rim.

Now if you minus the 1" for the rim (remember above post 1" on top and 1" on the bottom) the section hight is now 6.02" which is only 1/2" over stock each section which equals an overall adjustment of + 1" from stock.

NOW, is everyone confused

How about I just tell you how they fit onces they come in this week. They should be here around Wednesday ...

Why go to a 8" rim? Going to a 7" rim with up to a 10.50" wide tire is better and you will have less rub problems.

2 reasons ...

1- That wheel in that size and offset wasn't available with a 7" width.

2- Even if it was I would still go with an 8" just to have more then enough room to get the bigger tire on there. The 255 will fit better on an 8" wide wheel.

255 = 10.05" ... if you had the option of a 7" wide or 8" wide rim why not pick the 8"? Yeah a 7" might be able to hold it but why not give yourself some extra breathing room and possible expandability in the future.
