Yea, for a Nitro I think it is pretty hot! lol Thanks again for the warm welcome. Most of my mods are home made. The rack is one. I spent quite a lot of time trying to find something I liked, but there were very limited options out there. I did find one that is made by TrailWerks. The problem with theirs is it costs $1,600.00. I used 18g tube stock. It weighs around 90 Lbs total. The front, center, and back top bars are parallel for carrying long items. (before the lights)
Here is a top view.

Scar0 - that roof rack is amazing! GREAT job - I'd love something like that for my KK - however, I've got a skyslider - so I'd either need to put it up on tall mounts, or alumminium so that I can put it up/take it off easily as I go skiing/camping/lumber hauling. Again, GREAT job Scar0.... Man would I love to be able to weld. My Dad taught me when I was a kid, but... that's one skill I'm not sure I'd pick up again... |

Thanks. I hadn't welded in over 15 years. The tube was a PIA because it kept wanting to droop as it got hot.Again, GREAT job Scar0.... Man would I love to be able to weld. A few other mods. I have done. RAM Air. Front view. I can plug it if I want to get wet.
Got rid of that stupid air dam up front.
& a side view of the F/T hood.

Ok (Digger or Scar0), we better start a separate thread on Scar0's roof rack........... Scar0 wrote: Yea, for a Nitro I think it is pretty hot! lol

I'm unclear exactly what you mounted it to. On the KKs, I think there are only 2 studs at two places on each side that secure the OEM roof rails (thus 4 fasteners per side), yet your photo looks like there are 11 fasteners per side. Please clarify (detail photos may help). Do you notice any change in wind sound or buffeting off the roof rack? I like that you extended the roof rack up front around the sun roof. I've got a sun roof too and was thinking the same thing. It looks like you made the front taller. Are you considering adding some lights up front? Again, do I see a support up front (kind of in-line with the leading edge of the sun roof)? What is this attached to on the vehicle? How much have you loaded up there and what were the results? Curious minds would like to know if you feel like sharing...... |

I use it mostly for plywood and and other dimensional wood (2X4s etc.). That was why I made the bars on top parallel. I have had a couple hundred pounds up there. The only issue was a little paint came off. Since then, I have repainted it the right way. |

Brendon, forgive my ignorance, How high does the sky-slider stick up? Well when closed - the skyslider doesn't stick up at all (it might be, 3/4 in taller than the regular roof). But as it opens, it probably needs 6+ inches to open up as it folds back upon itself http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nb-wTrZMSFs Check this video for a visual. |

You will definitely have to go high, or removable. |

put the rack on hydrolic or electric lifts as much as you may think im joking i'm not, could be done, as long as the rack has a means of being locked down it wouldn't interfere with normal load ability |
