Does the drop in K&N air filter give you any power or good gas mileage then stock paper air filter liberty comes with?

It should help a little. Don't expect anything drastic but it will be better flowing which should give you a little boost in hp and gas mileage.

If possible get an Amsoil filter WAY better than a junk K&N ! And yes I used to think K&Ns were great but Amsoils air filter does a great job on the KJ

Not to get into a major debate but I wouldn't call K&N junk. If you think your Amsoil filter is better then good for you but to call K&N junk is absurd.

K&N is a world-wide leader in aftermarket air filters. There is a reason why companies like Hennessey Motorsports and Novitec Rosso, who only work on Ferrari's, use K&N filters in there Turbo Kits and Supercharger Kits.

The only reason I just signed on to see where this was going . . .

I'm not looking to get into a p!$$ing contest with anyone over who is better ... Everyone likes what they like and that's cool but to say that K&N makes "junk" is just a little far off the deep end.

To answer the first post... I use a K&N drop in filter, I did notice better acceleration. My mileage stayed the same, but I have a proverbially heavy right foot.
I have never used the other one mentioned, so, no opinion on that.

I was wondering if anyone was actually paying attention.
But I have no idea what you are talking about. Why did you change the quote? 8)

I guess I should answer the post too. I had a K&N drop in in my KJ too for a while. I have always used K&N in other cars and motorcycles, so why not here. I saw an initial MPG gain of about 1-1.5 MPG, but after about 3 tanks, it was back to the same mileage as before. No real difference. Power gains were too small to feel if at all.

But... I did have a problem with the K&N filter. It was oiling down my MAF sensor. I would pull the MAF at each oil change and it was coated in oily (and dusty!!!) stuff. As I said, I have used K&N filters for years, so I know the "proper" way to clean and re-oil them without over oiling them. But no matter how little of amount of the filter charger that I sprayed on the K&N filter, I always ended up with a greasy MAF.

So I gave in an bought an Amsoil drop in filter. It is a 100,000 mile filter, so I still don't have to buy new air filters all of the time, but you just vacuum it out or blow it off with air. As far as performance, it is about the same as the K&N, both MPG and Power. And now I always have a nice clean MAF.

So that is my experience. Take it or leave it. But if you haven't bought a K&N yet, I would highly recommend the Amsoil for about the same price.

Like Mike08Liberty said, "Everyone likes what they like"

Remember this is just the Drop in that I used. My best friend put the full FIPK kit on his Nitro and had no problems at all.

That's good info ltt. Next time I am in the market, I will definitely check it out.
I have noticed dirty oil on the back side of the filter from the CCV hose. But that would be the case no matter what filter you have in it.

Send a PM to JJsKJ. He is a dealer and gives LOST members his discounted cost. Give him your shipping address and what you want and he'll give you a quote.

not absurd at all my good friend, for some vehicles it works great , I have used K&Ns on all of my Harleys and the last 8 or 10 trucks &Jeeps I had but doesn't work well with the MAF sensors in newer vehicles , I tried it when I got the Liberty and had problems, been through 5 different air intake setups on it and the K&N was the worst, JUNK, Amsoil is doing the best job and has been in there for over 25000 miles with only cleaning every oil change.

Funny how no one can post or have an opinion anymore

I've had a K&N intake system on my truck for about 10,000 miles with NO issues. One of my friends has an K&N intake on their Lexus IS350 and another has one on his Jetta GTI also with NO issues. I have a co-worker that has a Ram 1500 also with a K&N intake and NO issues.

Just because a few people had some issues doesn't make it "JUNK". Did you try contact K&N and talk to them about your issue?

Yep, they told me to F*** off

in anycase, the point i meant to include was that i'm very well aware that the KJ/KK's are an entirely different filtration system than my T/A had, and i would not compare K&N's success in an entirely different system no sooner than i would compare their failure in an entirely different system

if it makes the MAF sensor dirty in KJ's it doesn't mean it makes it dirty in a Jag and if the Jags clean then it doesn't mean that the KJ/KK's clean

you've got reputable sources who tell ya it makes the MAF dirty, so either run the K&N and clean your MAF or run something else

are they junk? no, is there something better for our application? apparently

is there something better than K&N in every application? sometimes not
should you be open to the idea of their being something better? yes, unless you're just really fond of the K&N sticker on your window, in which case, noone is going to know you switched it for something else :D

if i were to only put in the one brand that I've used the most and the one that I used to work for and had the most expeirence with all of my stuff would have a Shell or quality oil logo

and i'm kind of glad I don't operate like that

on top of that, it's not a bad idea to pull your MAF and check it for crap either filter ya run, it's 'Kinda' an important part of your system
