Post subject:  Crossbars in progress. W/Pics

That's my project for the week.
I'm building cross bars that will hold "A good amount of weight".
Not getting very technical about it, and I am keeping on a budget.
I took some ideas from previous builds on here, and other areas of the internet. Then ran them by my dad.
Hopefully I will have pics up later. I just need to get some finishing touches, and then put them together.

Nothing special.

Just put them together. I gave them a night to let the spray on liner dry.

I went with someone on here's idea, of the Unistrut. I like the versitility of it.
Let me know what you think.

Did you pick up the rail from the electrical wholesalers? We got piles of that at our shop. Good thinking. Is it loud on the road? It looks like it would be loud with holes, and sound like a buch of hillbillies blowing on their jugs.

Lights... Not yet.
Loud... No, I notice a little noise around 70, just sounds like wind though.
Where... Home Depot. Electrical section.

10' x 14 guage. is abt. $17
There was a 10' x 12 guage for less, but instead of being square (1.5"x1.5") it was half as tall.

Brackets, are a U-bolt, with the bracket. THey were abt 2.50 a piece.
There is another washer, with two holes in it, I used that to get a little bit more clearance from the roof. They were something like $1 a piece.

Spray on liner $8 I think. I'm not sure. lol.
Fuel line $1.20
Fender washers, and lock washers. $1.50

I tried to keep it under $60.

The brackets were next to the strut, at Home Depot. I think they are for mounting two intersecting rails together.
I actually got the idea of using this, when I was walking through the maint. rooms in the building I work in.. Then I saw someone on here used it, and it looked really good.
I (personally) think it was a good choice, with the versitility of the piece. You have so many options for mounting different things to it.
I'm going to pick up some of the pipe clamps for it, and some PVC for safe storage of my fishing poles. For when we move. lol.

I have since painted them with textured black similar to the paint on the stock roof rails.

Did this mod a month or so ago. Really digging it. Any suggestions regarding a wind fairing to route the air over the bars?
