Do you guys change your oil religiously at 3,000 miles like the old standard or do you wait for the computer in the KK to say it's time? The reason I'm asking is I'm at 2,800 miles and not sure if I want to stray from the 3,000 mile rule.

Your gonna get 50 different answers it depends on what your using but if you wanna keep your unlimited powertrain they want documentation every 3000 miles so it's just one less thing for them to try and argue about.

Here is my personal Rule...

Look at the Oil and the Manual.

if the Oil looks good and it toped off. keep driving.
But if you hit 6K miles and the oil still looks good change it.
This will make sure you do not void a warranty clause.
not everyone agrees with this, but this is how I am seeing it.
Do not flame me for my view on the subject.

As your car is new, see if the dealer will give you a free Oil change.
Mine has given me 2 coupons to use.
I hope to use one soon.

If you rather do your own work, save and document the work.

if you really want to get good at this, send the oil out to be tested.
This will teach you more about oil.

Ok, not trying to be an a-hole, but I know most remember what happened with the last thread like this... KEEP IT CLEAN

Ok, cvt8474, I go by the computer in the KK. I use castrol syntec every oil change. Now most are going to say it's a waste, but I don't mind paying more per year to have clean oil in my KK

According to the 2009 Manual it says change the oil every 6000 miles. But the dealer says you should do it every 3000 miles and when I contacted Chrysler they basically said disregard the manual and just do what ever the dealer says to do.

Basically the dealership service dept said do as we say or you won't be covered by the lifetime limited warranty because we will fail your vehicle if a claim comes through. I am a little hot with this response.

In that case, I guess it would be 6000 miles for me, because the dealer didn't say boo about it. Still, I just hit about 5500 miles yesterday and the computer is telling me to change the oil, so I'll schedule it for next week (I get the first oil change for free from the dealer; the rest I'll do myself) and if they give me grief about it, it could get interesting.

I change mine every 12K using Mobil 1 oil and Mobil 1 filter. Been doing it for years on all my cars, never had any issues.

This thread needs to be closed. There are more then enough threads to answer this question.

Bottom line,
DO IT WHEN EVER YOU WANT AND/OR HOW EVERY MANY MILES/MONTHS YOU FEEL COMFORTABLE WITH.
