Post subject:  New Muffler/Exhaust work

Hi all,

I've been doing some research into a new less restrictive muffler for my KK. I see a lot of people have the flowmasters and a few have the whole magnaflow catback. It was looking like the exhaust run is fairly straight and open so I was looking to go just with a new performance muffler to keep costs down, but had a few questions.

I'm looking at the flowmaster Super 50 SUV, does anyone have this one currently? I'm looking to add the most performance with the least additional noise (Super 44 is out atm). Thoughts?

Also, is the resonator very restricting or will I get a decent gain from replacing the muffler and keeping the resonator intact? I saw a couple threads from a year ago on this, but just wanted to get the latest opinions.

Thanks!

the resonator is just a resonator. it dampens the sound of the exhaust.... there isn't any restriction what so ever there. 90%+ of the restriction on the exhaust side of the system is in the muffler..............

Perfect, that's what I wanted to confirm. Did you see much difference with your Super 44?

PS... we still have to meet up to do some wheeling. I've been down in the springs once or twice this summer and did a real quick run up Mt. Baldy while I was there.

yeah, we will have to do it next spring :D

And yes, there was a major difference with the the 44. Before I went with the heavier tires, you could tell that the "hesitation" in regards to throttle response/going while leaving a stop sign or light was greatly reduced........

I haven't done any wheeling in the springs area... Since I live in Aurora, I tend just to head west on 70 towards the mountains...

Now to really head off topic, how is the rest of your KK doing? I remember when you posted about your 2.5 and new tires, but you have been really quiet since then.......

Ah yeah, for some reason I thought you lived in the Springs, cool. Yeah my KK has been great. Love the JBA 2.5 (prolly should've went for the 4 since I'm always wanting a bit more) but the combination with the wheels/tires works out pretty good. I did get the new a-arms from JBA after contacting them about the upper pocket rubbing in the past month, but I still haven't found time to put them on. I also recently switched back to the stock wheels/tires to help out with gas mileage just driving around town, but the MT/R's are soon to be back. Overall I'm still really happy with it. My next planned mods are the muffler, rock sliders, and anything else I can find to get a bit more performance out of it.

I get that a lot since a fair share of the Colorado members are in the springs.......... I gave up on trying to get good gas mileage this year. I sold my highway tires earlier this year so I could get my KM'2's .

As far as performance goes.... your basically looking at either a Jet chip or B&G flash. You could do headers, but their isn't much to be gained considering the cost. I haven't looked in to it to deep, but there is also the posiability of running a fastman throttle body..........

I did the Magnaflow setup. No more resonator, either. At first I was like "oh my god, this is too loud for a stock-looking Jeep". It was rediculous. And smelled horrible. And smoked. lol

But now, it's way more "ear friendly". Don't notice it that much except at idle and 2100-2300 rpm, where it has a loud hum. I have an intake also, but nothing major.

No way I'd pay $430 for that! Big case muffler, bent pipe, and a tip. For what, 5hp?

Gibson makes an excellent product. If you want to go with a Catback system.

I got my whole setup off of craigslist for $25. Absolutely NOT kidding!

The guy changed his mind about a month after he bought it, and said "whoever calls first, gets it. So, guess who was first in line? I was really worried about it being fake when I got there. But lo and behold, the box hadn't even been opened. I opened it anyway.. And there was a brand new Magnaflow setup inside. :D $25 later I was on my way home.
