| Post subject: | Think I've decided to keep my '08 Liberty |
Been looking around and test driving some other vehicles. I really like my Liberty, so I guess I'll try harder to get the things fixed on it that are wrong. I really can't justify the loss I'd take on it on trading it in so soon, plus there isn't anything out there that I seem to like as well as my Jeep. I really need to replace the crappy Goodyear Wrangler's....don't know what to get for sure. Want something that looks a little rugged but also quiet. Surely need to get the brakes fixed! The Skyslider I love, but it's leaked and stained my headliner.....not happy about that. They did a fix on it once, but it still leaks I still love the looks of it...... A Jeep lover |

Glad to here that you are going to keep it. I'm telling you, all you need to do is take a drive to Digger's Jeep Repair, and I can fix your brakes...... As far as the sky crapper, I have a tube of DOW silicon that can be painted |

When does your skyslider leak? Just from a rain storm or when you take your KK through a high pressure car wash? If it leaks from just rain then there is a problem,if it just leaks when you wash it with high pressure water(any carwash) then that is 100% normal since the skyslider only protects from "normal atmospheric pressures" which is water pressure less the 22psi. |

I know what you're saying about the car wash thing. Thing is it's been through the carwash already, and will be in the future, particularly in the winter when I can't wash it myself. My headliner is ruined, and I'm not at all happy about that. That's not practical when you live where it snows and has salt on the road. Not at all acceptable |

Not at all acceptable Just one more ?,why did you buy a very un-practical option if you can't maintain it properly then complain about it when it fails? I had one very unhappy customer with a '02 Firebird convertible that would leak when taken through a high pressure carwash, still did it after the top and windows where adjusted properly. It finally took the regional rep to basically tell him that he could go f__k himself and his leaking convertible since GM did not care. |

Hey SilverFox. I had a leak around my sunroof last month. My headliner has a stain now as well, which I can live with. I had the boys at the lab (erwin chrysler) take a look and they replaced the seal around the sunroof. Bye Bye leak and no cost. Maybe there is a crack in the seal that goes around the opening to the roof on yours. Just trying to be helpful. das4x4 |

Silverfox - I also have a skyslider - in Calgary AB, Canada, so we get snow/salt too.... just another fyi - our manual also states to NOT take the skyslider into a high-pressure washer. it's simply not designed to take water sprayed directly at the seam (which is was a high pressure wash does). What I do in the winter? either take it to a NON-high pressure (ie, the roller/scrubber kind of wash - or one of the $1/60 seconds wand wash - simply avoid the skyslider seams. Mine's been fine, with the exception of windnoise. |

I hear you about the water leak. It took the dealership five times to fix my leaking rear window/ tail gate. |

Ive had my KK for about a year now and my skyslider is working fine. No leaks, no wind noise. Just the darn squeaking noise the pass. seat has. other than that the kk has been good to me. =) I just wanted to mention: There's a velcro strip holding the skysliders headliner (just open a bit your skyslider and it should be right in the front edge of it). Check your velcro strip to see if it is correctly installed. Mine wasnt so it made a weird noise. it took me like 2 mins to fix. If it is not properly attached, then your leaking issues might be coming from there. just my .02 cents |

When I first bought mine I too had the leak at rear window/tail gate. Took the dealership twice to get that one fixed. Ended up replacing the whole rubber seal around it. No more leaks. |

das4x4 So Das, you have a regular sun roof?? I ran my KK thru a touchless car was a week or so ago and kept the inside liner back just to see what happens. When the water started spraying all along the front of sunroof had drips that landed up in there, I figured this may be normal and that there may be some sort of channel in there to take water away? Where is/was your water stain on headliner? I have one around the a pillar at the very top on passenger side? Its pink, color of the carwash soap I guess? Guess I'll go to Perkins Chyrs/dodge. |

Yeah, the rubber seal/gasket that goes around the glass of the sunroof went bad at the front driver corner. The water leaked in and then "drained" at the top of the driver side A piller. There's not really much of a channel to carry away excess water but plenty of open space between the underside of roof and top side of headliner. The first time I noticed water was my floor mats were wet. I assumed I left a window or the sunroof cracked open. (I've done that plenty of times das |

das Thanks for the info, and I'm kinda surprised the dealer didnt replace the headliner also since it was damaged by the leaking seal? At least they fixed the seal |

I went through this battle with my OL's 08 Liberty with Jeep and the customer satisfaction center and a regular sunroof. It leaks and Jeep says it was not designed for car washes. I asked why my 02 Liberty never leaked, my wife's 04 Grand Overland never leaked, and my 05 Grand never leaked. Got a sorry, guess what I traded my non leaking 300c in on a 09 Grand Cherokee and the sun roof leaks like my wife's 08 Liberty. Tell me that Jeep is building them better, Ha Ha Ha. Other than that and transmission shuddering the 08 Liberty is a fine automobile. For a Jeep with the OL driving it even gets decent mileage. Not as good as my 02 Liberty was, but Fiat will get its chance to honor the lifetime warranty over the years. |
