So the wife's KK sounded like it was dragging somthing a couple of days ago. She called me and said she looked and didnt see anything under there. Well when I got home I checked it out (in the rain no less) and saw nothing. I got in to take it for a spin to see what I could hear and sure enough sounded like somthing was dragging. Well I rolled the window down and the noise was coming from the driver's side rear tire area.

I called the dealership and told them what I heard and told them I didnt want to drive it since it had only just started making the noise. The service manager said no problem and gave me the 800 number for a free tow since it only has 6500 miles on it.

Tow truck comes and gets it and all is well. I get a call the next day saying that everything is good to go and that I can come pick it up whenever I am ready. The guy tells me that it was just a big rock stuck in between the brake pad and rotor.

I get the wife and baby in my jeep and we head to the dealership after work (in the rain). Get to the dealership right before they close the service department and get taken to the money counter and told "that'll be 51 dollars please". Now at this point I get pretty disgruntled and ask the guy why I am getting charged 51 dollars and why no one told me when I was called to pick it up? He told me "psssh warranty doesnt cover rocks". I said well I dont have 51 dollars and my wife and 7 month old daughter are waiting in my other jeep (2009 wrangler unlimited sahara) in the parking lot to drive her jeep home.

Well the guy was kinda perturbed but said well I can give you the car and have somone call you in the morning. I said thats fine and he wrote on the ticket "did not expect to pay" gave me the keys and I went on my way.

That has been about 4 or 5 days and no phone call, so I dont think they are gonna call me. What do you guys think?

I had a rock on my rear passenger side also. I didn't take it in, however.

Personally, I wouldn't worry about it. I don't know how things are now a days, but it will probably be just written off.....

Im not worried about it just obviously they didnt know it wasnt warrenty work until they took apart the break's and when the ghost rock fell out they said oh doo doo there is the problem! They stoped looked at the rotor and the pad said everything is good and put it back together. I would understand had it been somthing else that wasnt warranty they would call and ask if I wanted the work done for xxxx dolars and I would have had the chance to take it somwhere else. Just kinda upset me they tried to get 50 bucks out of me. How do I know there was a rock in there and that they werent just trying to make a buck off of somthing that really was a simple warranty fix?

Not be a jerk but they are not obligated to warranty the brake pads and rotors after 12,000miles or 1 year. You do owe them the money but I doubt they will pursue it for $51,but they might try to get the tow bill out of you though.

I had a rock in the RR also. No charge for me though? I didn't get towed in though.
