Post subject:  Looking for opinions on budget lift

I've been looking @ a few options for a budget lift. Would like to hear some opinions before I go out and get it.

This options will not affect the Struts.
1. ROCK KRAWLER 3.5" and 2" rear priced around $299. w/o rear shocks

2. Rocky Road budget lift 3" front an 2" rear priced @ $254.00 w/o rear Shocks. W their shocks $335. (external Strut Spacer)

3. Rusty's Off-road 2" front and rear. for $169. but my KK sags so I would have to get the plates which is anothe $30. total $200. w/o shocks.
(External Strut Spacer)
Or

Spacers that affect the Struts

If it comes to spacers I think my pick will be Daystar, it seems like there is a few here w no complaints.

Oh, and I'm not planning to purchase the A-arms for a while. So for those w the Rock Krawler, how necessary has it become? And is Rocky Road a no, no as to do business w them (speaking in product term)? Any dirt on Rusty's Off-road?

Any comments welcomed, Thanks

FORGET #3

I purchased a sot if their OTT spacers about a year ago, and the holes were not even drilled straight.... The customer service sucked also

#2.... havent a clue as to current business practices... I know a few members have purchased rock rails from them and have been happy so far.

Spacers... meh... they will shorten the life of the coils and struts. After 30K, be ready to redo every thing because of suspension sag.........

Personally I would go with number 1 if I had to have a spacer lift. It is the fastest and easiest labor wise to install. This also makes it the easiest to remove in case warranty work is needed on the suspension and or drive train.... I will say I don't like the hardware they use on the RK lift, but I guess it works.....

I have the Rock Krawler kit and love it. I've been very happy with it and have done A LOT of off-roading with the kit. You should put into your budget rear shocks.
Here is some info to look at for rear shocks

remember in the long run " Cheap is expensive"
you didn't buy a cheap off brand 4 wheel drive, why cheap out on something that affects your ride, handeling, overall performance of your Jeep!
Still can not fiqure that out?

Cheap my had been a bad choice of words.

how about Budget minded or Will not break the bank...

Shocks are a must have with lifts.
So if you can afford $300 now. and to do it right cost $500.
Then save up or buy over time...

You do not have to spend $3k to get a few inches. But never short change your self.....

i have the rock krawler kit. the kit i purchased did not have the grade 8 bolts and also there is some racket going over bumps too fast. other then that im pretty content with it. my kit is just a temporary kit until i can decide whether to keep it or purchase the new jba 4" lift. i dont know how much off road ill be doing and cant really justify buying it until i start going. which wont be for another month or so til i can get time off. i have 16x8 rims with 5in backspace, 265/70/16 (31x10.5 ish) tires and they barely rub on the fender plastic. the pinch weld might need to be beat down and form the plastic a little bit for this size tire and rim offset. i really only notice the rub while in reverse though. i cant speak for any other kit but i think for $300 the rock krawler isnt BAD but you do get what you pay for.

Thanks, for all the input. I wasn't sure about Rusty's but know I'm not going to even bother. Thanks for the info Digger, also Mike08Liberty for the cross reference on rear shocks, and the videos, great job. Thanks for all the info.
Now, I see Terra Flex it looks to be just like the Rusty's like Digger said and like the Rocky Road OTT lift, that I was comparing.
Okay, so another question. Is the Over The Top lift offer any benefits than the Rock Krawler 3.5 lift. I can see the benefit of the Rock Krawler being easier to install and remove, and the disadvantage there is some racket going over bumps too fast, which may lead to getting A arms and hope it works. So I wanted to see if there was a benefit to the OTT.

Goodmorning from Greece +7 hrs , I run on a Daystar 2'' BB with 2,5'' rear Skyjackers and it is very smooth on , yet 100% better off . The only thing it needs is the A-arms by JBA .
And some work with the flares to put some 32s''

I'd go with a solid belly skid

One doesn't need a full 4 inches to fit larger tires.... Boblemoche has a custom 3 inch lift... Just look at his rig:

Anyone who lifts should think in terms of UPGRADING the suspension, not only lifting it no matter if its every day driving or off road.
New springs/shocks help the ride a tremendous amount, Better control on all road surfaces, better handeling, ride is much improved over anything you can do and when using the stock suspension.

I had to save for a couple of months back when I lifted my KJ, but it has lasted 100,000 miles, stock suspension with any type of spacer will never do that!

So think ahead what you want long term, just not tomorrow

Bure Aghali as my wife would tell me!
