When I walk away from my Jeep and press the remote lock it won't work sometimes until I press it several times. Think it might need a new battery??? Where do you get one...at the dealer??? Thanks! |

Last week it was around zero all week and I was over my friends house , we were going to pick up a trailer he was buying and wanted company. When I came up to my truck to unlock it with remote, the key fob didn't do a thing. My buddy said use the key, I was like huh? Key? Whats that for, I have a buton. Anyway I wear my key on a dring on my belt and I guess those key fobs don't like zero degrees weather, later I tried it and worked no problem. It is really cold where you are? Are your keys exposed to cold extended period of time? |

If you open the key phob up. You will see a Number on the battery. I think it might be a CR 2025 It might be a CR 2032. Any ways, do not buy it from the dealer. These batteries cost very little if bought from the right places. I get my stuff at MeritLine.com i just got 50 of the CR2025 for $15 shipped. i use these in Car steroe remotes for work. Get Lithium |

I will set mine outside for a few hours (It's 13F right now) and see if it works. Mine was submersed in a puddle of beer in a golf cart for a couple hours and still worked. I was rather impressed. |

The key phob has a Rubber gasket to make it water proof to a point. It is Jeep you know, water is expected... |

It is Jeep you know, water is expected... HAHAHAHA yeah, I remember the first trip to the wild I took on my KK... I was walking on a river and I fell and I paniqued because my keys would not work......... I was surprised that it actually has a nice rubber gasket! and yeah, the range on my remote has been going from bad to worse.... Time for a new battery I guess. |

hey well while you are replacing the batteries which will increase the signal because the amplitude will be higher... you might as well do this mod too http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8f-g2W4ZoEw I have done this before... and i actually just opened up the jeep remote to confirm it still works... you will see the black peice what looks like a little chip, you will also see a flat gold square and you will see a grey square... the grey square is the one you solder on... it really does work and you get tons of range... never know maybe you could hook up a 6' antenna to it and open our car from a few miles away! just kidding.... sorta |

I never acutally use the factory key fob, ive got the Viper Alarm and Remote Start with a 1 mile range. Its hard to find a point when it doesnt reach. Its 2 Way also so the remote tells you when the signal is received. |

They dont make mine anymore, this is the one that replaced mine (http://viper.com/P-5702V/Viper-5901-Res ... art-System). Labor was about 200-250, plus about another 200 in parts(1 being some Box and another was a box to generate the signal that our keys make otherwise the remote start wouldnt work. I got a HUGE discount on the unit itself due to my part time employment at best buy. I love it tho, the remote will also tell you if someone hits the vehicle or opens a door and it will beep and vibrate. |

My KK has the factory starter. My Cherokee had a Firstech Compustar unit, it was 2 way. It was not their top of the line unit (maybe several steps down). It had all the paging and alarm stuff door ajar and all that. It also had several user programmable channels. I had one turn the heated seats on in the winter and one set to open my sunroof. Never had the auto temp control wired up to maintain a set temp in the cabin. Unit basic unit and install was $450 I paid $75 extra to open sunroof and turn heated set on. Dave |
