Post subject:  Fuel Injector Service and Throttle Plate/Body Service

Every time i go in they recommend i get these 2 services done. Cost is Fuel Injector Service-129.95 and Throttle Plate/Body Service 98.00. Is this needed at 24,000 Miles or if my engine is running silky smooth as it always has?

Once a year is good for the right service. I used to work for Valvoline and we promoted our 3-part service as once a year. The service will clean all the carbon build up off your injectors and the throttle service will clean the intake and intake manifold, very good if you live in the city with very dirty air.

Call around you should be able to get a 3-part service for around $129-$159. The three part service should include
1 - engine cleaner - an additive added to your oil change
2 - intake fogger - this will clean your throttle body and intake manifold
3 - injector cleaner - additive added to your gas tank

This is good for once a year maintenance.

If they are only doing a fuel injector service for $129 what they are doing is attaching a device to your fuel rail and running a cleaner through it. It will break down any build up on the rail and injectors. This is a great service but not really needed on engines with low miles. If you can get the above 3 part service done get that and wait for the injector only service til about 50K.

You can also do it yourself for a whole lot cheaper and almost if not as good

with that low miles I would not worry about it, most of the places its a come on

1 can thottle body cleaner $6.00, spray on a towel and open thottle body and wipe black gunk and then spray some around thottelbody bore !
1 bottle of brand name fuelinjector cleaner $ 10.00 (and that's on the pricey side) poor in fuel tank 1/2 tank of fuel and add fuel additive (more potent ) !
I've worked at GM dealer's for a while and doing these 2 service's once a year, is more than most will do in 4 year's !!!!

Ya i thought so. I usually run a bottle of STP Fuel Injector Cleaner every oil change and the Complete Fuel System Cleaner Twice a year like it says. Im also a big Shell fan and have filled up every time at shell over the years except for like 2 or 3 times when it was Mobile.

Mike is right. hands down...
The foger service is great, if you keep on it... Tha tis the key to this 3 part service, if you do it every year or 30K miles it will help the most.

if you forget then it might take a bit to get it back on the cleaner side.

But ath being said and me being cheap.

I go with 1 bottle of Seafoam 1 bottle of MMO Marvell mystry oil, and a bottle of throttle body cleaner.

Follow the direction on the seafoam to the a tea....
When it comes time to change the oil I add in a good amount of MMO to the oil. then let the car idle for 30 minutes.
Then change the oil when it it hot or cold, Then might the drain plug is out.
I pour more MMO in the crank case. This can help get extra crap out.
other will put the drain pulg back on and pour gallon of Kerosene in and let it sit for 20 minutes in the pan.. then drain that out.

Really there are lots of ways to clean stuff.

STO is cheap stuff.

Valvolin makes great stuff as well.

if you do end up running any fluid into the intake through a Vacumm line. make sire it takes at least 5 minutes for 5 OZ. any faster and it will not do the job right.

if money is real tight water also works as well, to make a Steam inside the intake. but 5 oz need to last 5 minutes at idle.

Remember this is your car and you need to research this and make your own choice, if you do what I say, do it at your own risk.

paying some else is not a bad idea if you do not understand hydro locking... and the $8K price tag is cost to fix at times.
