Well, my KK got rear-ended on Christmas Eve... I was stopped for a car completing a u-turn when I looked up in the rear-view mirror and dropped an obscenity. I knew I was about get hit. Sure enough BAM! Right into the back of me! Knocked me so hard the shade in the sunroof flew open, and scooted me about 20 some odd feet forward. Some of that was me strategically letting off the brake just a little bit since I had plenty of room in front of me and the car u-turning. That car drove off.... The witness behind the guy that hit me guesstimated he was going 20-25 when he hit me. No reason why he didn't have plenty of time to stop. The guy behind him had already slowed down and was stopping when that guy hit me! KK drove home, the guys Kia Sorento ..... on the rollback. The Jeep took it like a CHAMP! It feels like it was crabbing on me a bit. The Traction Control and ABS lights are staying on. I had to catch a flight out of town the next morning, so I have to wait till Tuesday to start the process. What a way to roll in 2010!! I checked ok, just plenty sore in the back still. |

Bummer about getting rear ended...... They are differently way cheaper to repair if it gets rear ended then a frontal  When you get back in to town, post up some pictures for us  Don't want to shoot in the dark, but I would say one of the speed sensors was damaged...... Good luck

The Kia who hit me...  The jeep  Another angle  the lift gate has a pinch in it so tight that it actually punctured the metal. cosmetically looking at new gate, bumper, tail light, etc. not sure mechanically is going to be needed. and I was going to get them to fix that rear-window leak on my next oil change..... Today I have learned alot of information that has caused me to get a lawyer involved. YAY?! Can't wait to actually pick up the police report now that I'm in town. |

Thats all the damage you took  That Kia is probably totaled depending on how old it is. As for you, my guess would be 4K to 6K to fix your ride....Keep us posted and thanks for the pictures!!! |

Lawyer eh? Doesn't sound good. Is he claiming you were backing up?  The Jeep doesn't look too bad from the outside. Just hope there is not too much under-body issues. KIA is totaled. |

2700 worth..thats towing package, muffler assembly, bumper, absorber, plastic trim, lift gate, lift gate trim, 3.7 liter badge and tail light + some paint and labor.... but he said theres no telling what they're going to find when they get inside the thing, the towing package was bent where it met the frame... |

The damage to yours looks very similar to mine from a couple months ago. Cost 4300 or something. A big hidden damaged part was the cargo area floor cross beam, my guess is yours is damaged too. My rear passenger shock got bent from my tailpipe being smashed into it. Side note: whats with the knocked over sign in the 2nd picture? |

Re: sidenote Oh, I stopped at my place of employment under a carpool awning after I got released from the scene to take some pictures as in best of light as I could to document the damage the night of. And to send to my parents in Houston who were freaking out waiting for me to email them some pictures..... we had had some significant wind in the area that day, that sign was a victim of that. Re: damage Yeah the body shop guy's estimation was quick glance mainly cosmetics. he fully said he fully expected to find more as they removed panels. One being the area that the tail light sets in on the RR quater panel, he was seriously concerned about the frame considering the factory towing package was bent where it mounts on the frame, but there's no way for them to tell until they get to car. |

yeah.... If the area where the hitch bolts up is jacked up, it's going to be costly........ I'm not a body person, but I could see the jeep being totaled if the uni-body is to messed up |

It's in the 30's today, and I'm not about to crawling around on the ground under my jeep 1) my back hurts too much still 2) its too darn cold!!!! I don't think the body shop guy would have let me drive it home if he thought he was going to end up totaling it. I need to find my SLR and take some good pictures prior to dropping it off next week. |

Dude, did Chrysler put unobtanium in these rear ends? I think we should start some sort of "rear ended and survived" club for people like us.  I gotta find out what number I am then.

well - KK is in the shop! And now my butts dragging the ground in a Pontiac G6 (GM makes some cheap feeling cars...... but not trucks/suvs... go figure.) and I don't think I'd ever drive another car unless a wife REALLY wanted a car. SUV :COUGH: JEEP! all the way. Toying around with selling the KK for a Wrangler when this is all and said and done.... How many KK rear-ends is this? I remember reading of 3 others before mine. |
