Since changing the KK oil filter can be such a PITA, has anyone tried a relocation kit? http://www.summitracing.com/parts/TRD-1122/ |

You think throwing in an aux oil cooler while your at is would be worthwhile? |

If you use shorter hoses, go ahead. I'd be afraid of loosing to much oil pressure if also adding in a cooler with the 7.5' of hose........ |

Keep us posted how this turns out. Since last summer, I've thought if I ever had time, I'd look into remote oil filter mountings. |

Scar0 wrote: It has been done on a KA. See this thread. Scar0 thanks for the link, I am so going to have to do this. I spent 15 minutes to just find the filter getting ready for my first oil change. When I found it all I could do was laugh a sick twisted laugh. I've always done my own maintenance including oil changes. When I bought my KK, it came with 3 years of scheduled maintenance. I don't want the hassle of taking it to the dealer and waiting for them to do my oil changes. I figure I can do it faster than the time it would take to drive down there and wait for them to do it. I still probably won't have them do it but if I didn't like mechanics, I might get a sick pleasure out of making them do this for free. Since I'll probably have to do this a couple of times before I relocate the filter, is there a trick to do this without having to get out my best profanity? I looked for a "how to" and didn't find one (still developing my search skills though so sorry if it is out there and I missed it). I'm envisioning shreading my knuckles and trying every wrench I own to figure out how to get this out. If I was 6 inches tall and had the forearms of Popeye, I could fit in there and get this out with ease but as it is, I'd rather have the benefit of someone else's experience that would save me a lot of time and maybe a few knuckles. Also, it looks like I would need the Trans-Dapt TRD-1127 kit instead of the one in Scar0's reference since the thread size changed to 22mm x 1.5mm for 2009 and 2010 KKs. |

Diggerfreek wrote: I use a K&N filter because of the one inch nut Thanks Digger. Can you fit a normal open ended 1" wrench in there and still get a good grip and leverage on it? If not, what kind of wrench do you use on it? |

GeekyJeep wrote: anyone actually tried a relocator kit? am i the only one that changes his filter from the top? I'm still thinking about the relocator kit. I just have not found what I think is a good spot to locate it. Now that I have all the skid plates, we'll see how hard it is to change out next time. If it is too hard, I'll probably relocate it. As for your other question... I change mine out from the bottom. |
