is it normal for the amber engine maintenance light to come on with the change oil mesage showing on the odom? My engine maintenance light came on right after the change oil message showed up. Will reseting this message also turn the light off or only the change oil message?. I never take my 2008 liberty to the dealship for an oil change so i hope it is ok. They are known locally as major rip off kings. My 2008 has 33500kms(21000 miles) on it. This will be my second oil change since i got it used with 26000km on it. Thanks so very much in advance. Happy jeeping |

No, that means you have a problem with the KK.... If you have a code reader, it will give you a Pxxxx code. otherwise, it is a trip to the dealer... |

I don't know if your auto parts stores up there will do this, but here in the states, most of the auto parts chains will hook up their code reader and tell you whats wrong with it. As far as idea, I don't want to guess... If you can get me the trouble code, which like I said is a Pxxxx, I can help you....(most likely) |

Thank you sir. I am a bit nervous because the dealership I am worried about ripped off my girlfriend on an oil change told her that the 2009 Journey are diesel and it costs more to do an oilchange on that.. She of course told me this weeks after it happened.. what a rip off |

Since you are still under the BTB warranty it is 100% free at any Chrysler dealership. It may be a stupid thing like a loose/bad gas cap. |

Its NOT the gas cap. Where you see the "Oil Change Due" message is also where you will see if its your gas cap. It will say "Check Gas Cap". You won't get a check engine light for that. As TJ said you are covered under warranty so just take it to the dealer and they'll check it out. I bought this (same scanner from the same seller) http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/OBD-2-CA ... veQ5fTools it's the best investment I've ever made. You can use it on any car (96+ with an OBD port) and it will tell you what the code is being thrown and a description of the code. Here is what it looks like ... (I just throw this code today, Nate any ideas what/where I need to look to fix this)

I keep forgetting about this check 1. Enter the jeep, shut door. 2. Put on the emergency brake and tranny in "Park" 3. Hold down trip button. 4. Turn key to "ON" position and let off the trip button. 5. You will get a light show along with dancing gauges! 6. Do not start the car, Once it is done running its system checks the gauge cluster will return to normal and you can be on your way! This checks that all gauges and lights are functioning normally. The important thing is to watch the odometer. It will have codes coming up. When it shows a code starting with "p" this is your error code. for example. |

It came on this afternoon and it just happens I had to fill up this evening. I cleared the code before I filled up. I'll see if it comes back on in the morning. I've had a loose gas cap before and it always comes on the dash in the message section and says "Check Gas Cap". Never had this code before. Anything else to look into? Could it be a problem with the gas filler neck? |

Now that I think of it i did have the check gascap warning on my odom and I am certain that the amber engine maintenace light came on after that. I was unaware that my Jeep even had that feature. Are the 2 things related?? I checked my warrenty stuff and it says that I am covered until Aug. 31st..so this wont cost me anything other than oil and filter change right? Also I had a auto clinic preform my last oil change, i cant have my warranty voided due to that right?? Thanks in advance, you guys are so knowegable I wish i had come here before I brought my Jeep. |

I get that same code about 2-3 times a year,it's mostly temp related that causes some of the o-rings in the EVAP system not seal real well(IE gas cap),nothing wrong just the right temps where reached to cause this issue.I ignore it and clear the code.Plus the EVAP system does not self test itself everytime you turn on the vehicle, certain parameters must be meet, engine temp, fuel level, drive time, and so on beofre the EVAP system will self test itself so it may or may not ever come back on or take months to come back on. |

Yes, the 2 could be related. If you feel that is the problem, remove the negative battery cable for 2 minutes and reattach it. If in fact it was related to the gas cap, the light will go out as long as your cap is tight. Also, as long as you keep all of your receipts for oil changes and work done, they can not void your warranty.... |

I just got my Jeep back 20 mins ago and you guys were totally correct. It was the faulty gascap and eva thingie that caused the engine maintenace light to come on. It has to go back later when the parts arrive but the tech said not to worry no harm will come from driving it around.. Thanks again so very much you guys rock. Now I am a Happy Jeeper again |
