Adding the Bluetooth option to my stock radio so i can speak handsfree? I feel like I should have gotten all the fancy connectivity stuff when I got Libby, but now I feel like I am kinda regretting not having the bells and whistles.

:-(

I like it.
When the wife calls, it is a relief knowing her hands are not on a phone.
It sounds good as well.

I wish I could help you, but I don't have any knowledge about the hands free thing.....

I'll never buy another contemporary vehicle without hands-free phone connectivity (such as bluetooth). It is wonderful. Between work issues managing my projects, a side business and trying to keep in touch / coordinate with friends and family, I probably use my (uConnect/myGig) bluetooth hands-free phone connection at least once at least 25% of the trips I'm in my KK (going to/from work, to/from airport, running errands).

On the uConnect/myGig, your phone's phone book synchs with the unit. You can also enter phone contact info into the unit. For all the people I dial routinely, I've got it setup so I can call them via voice commands such as "call Denise" - when it then asks me if I want to call "home, work or mobile". If someone calls my cell phone while I'm in my KK, their number shows up on the unit's display. If they're in my unit's or phone's contact list, then they're contact name shows up. Whenever you're on the phone, all music is muted and if you're playing something other than the radio, it is paused where it was. It all restarts once you hang up the phone.

I definitely feel it is safer than trying to hold a phone and driving (but you could also do the same with a corded or bluetooth headset). It does allow others in the vehicle to hear / participate in the phone call unless you transfer the call back to your phone handset. If you don't have a problem using, or have to use, a phone while in your vehicle, I definitely recommend going the hands-free route.

So, is this what I need to hook it up?

http://jparts.com/product_info.php?cPat ... ts_id=1942

or

Will I be able to run it through my phone or am I going to be stuck with one of those external buttons - I mean, I have the buttons available on my stereo, but obviously, they don't do anything....

I second MtnLuvr's comments I have it on my jeep. I just have the 6 disc radio, but works the same. I think the kits you are looking at have a small control box and you will use those buttons not the ones on your radio. the factory u-connect has the mic in the rear view mirror.

x3 on MtnLuvr's comments. I have had uconnect on every car I have owned/leased for about 5 years now and love it. So much better than bluetooth ear piece.

Jaimee76. That is the correct part if you have the radio with the uconnect button on it. Part #82211878
If your radio doesn't have that button, then you will need part# 82211755AB instead. It is more expensive because it comes with the little button panel for volume, mute, etc. since the radio doesn't have them.

Edit: as I reread your post it sounds like you do have the radio with the uconnect buttons already, so you do have the correct part from jparts. Basically the kit just comes with a little box that you wire in behind the stock radio with the wire harness provided. And a microphone that you run from the radio, through the glove box, up the pillar and stick it near your driver side visor. The mic picks up your voice and the other end of the call comes out of your car's speakers.
In my opinion it does a lot better job of blocking out external noise then any other bluetooth headsets I have used.

i have the buttons on my radio for the u-connect but dont have it activated. when i talked to my local dealership they said that i would have to get a new rearview mirror to get the bluetooth in the car. i am assuming it is because like you said that they mic is in the rearview mirror. if i get that does that mean that i will be able to use the bluetooth buttons that are currently on my radio? and does anyone know how much it costs to do it this way?

This is starting to seem worth investing in....

I wonder how much it will actually sell for when it comes out, since these things never seem to sell for their retail prices.
